A 9,000 square foot clubhouse is the centerpiece of all activity at Alegria in Bernalillo. Here, residents gather with new neighbors, mingle with old friends and workout in a fun and relaxing environment.

Set on the Rio Grande, near the base of the Sandia Mountains, Alegria by Del Webb celebrates New Mexico’s rich culture and natural beauty with Southwest-style architecture and spectacular scenic views. The intimate community also offers many resort-style amenities. And its prime location in Bernalillo—just minutes from downtown Albuquerque—makes Alegria an ideal destination for active adult retirees.

When it comes to location, the Southwest has been popular with retirees for decades. However, it’s only in recent years that New Mexico has been gaining attention as a retirement hot spot. While most people think of the state as being a desert, New Mexico actually has a diverse geography. In addition to its rose-colored deserts, first-time visitors may be surprised to find breathtaking mountain vistas, distinctive painted mesas and wild forests.

Situated in Bernalillo, Alegria enjoys close proximity to both outdoor recreations and urban attractions. Active adults who love the outdoors will enjoy hiking at Petroglyph National Monument or the Rio Grande Nature Center. The nearby Sandia Peak Tramway offers easy access to stunning views from the top of the Sandia Mountains, which is also a great place to ski during the winter months.

When Alegria residents are looking for shopping, dining or cultural attractions, Albuquerque is less than 30 minutes from the community. This thriving city offers plenty of attractions such as restaurants with delicious New Mexican cuisine, diverse shopping centers and live performances at venues such as the well-known KiMo Theatre. Each October, locals and visitors alike are thrilled to see the hot-air balloons at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.

The architecture within Alegria reflects the state’s Southwest style in both its community buildings and single-story, single-family homes. In 2006, the community was originally developed by Centex Homes. Three years later, Centex was acquired by Pulte Homes, whose well-known Del Webb brand has taken over the community’s development.

Single-family homes at Alegria are available in two different lines: the Pecos Series and the Rio Grande Series. Homes in the Pecos Series are thoughtfully designed with inviting, open floor plans. There are four different models in the series, ranging from 1,403 to 1,867 square feet. The Rio Grande Series offers five models of larger, luxury homes, which range in size from 1,951 to 2,325 square feet. Upon completion, the community will hold just 376 homes.

Though Alegria is smaller than many other Del Webb properties, it offers many of the same resort-style amenities that are found in larger active adult communities. The spacious clubhouse includes a fitness center with an indoor lap pool, hobby and game rooms, a library and a demonstration kitchen. There is also an outdoor swimming pool, bocce ball courts, horseshoe pits and extensive walking and biking trails.

But potential homebuyers do not have to settle for online descriptions or even a brief in-person tour. At Alegria, Del Webb offers a one-day guest pass which lets potential residents try out the community amenities for themselves. This also lets them meet the friendly people within the community, including the full-time Lifestyle Director who is happy to tout the benefits of life at Alegria.

If you long to retire in the arid Southwest, arrange a visit to Alegria and see what it has to offer for yourself. With a fabulous location, a variety of amenities and beautiful homes, Alegria just may be your ideal retirement destination.
