Active adult communities come in a range of sizes and styles, from intimate neighborhoods to sprawling resorts. The largest age-restricted communities contain more than 10,000 homes and feature a wide selection of amenities, including shopping centers that make it easy to manage day to day living. While sprawling resort-style communities are usually found in popular retirement states such as Florida, Arizona and California, newer developments in Texas, Nevada and South Carolina are becoming more common.

In February and March of 2009, baby boomers were the fastest growing demographic among Facebook users. A few short months later the activity for Facebook users in this age group dramatically declined. Speculation has been rampant over both the 55 and older Facebook boom and its subsequent rapid decline.
When baby boomers began flocking to the popular social networking site reporters asked, “Will this kill Facebook?” Many speculated that the younger generations would be unhappy to share a social networking site with their parents and grandparents. It was suggested that teens and young adults would leave in droves.

It is expected that by 2011, the number of Baby Boomers who use the Internet at least once a month will grow to 63.7 million. That means that 4 out of every 5 Baby Boomers will use the Internet in some fashion. Although the Baby Boomers are not known for being the most technology savvy generation, they are embracing the power of the Internet in record numbers. With the increase in the number of Baby Boomers comes an increase in the number of sites catering to this demographic. PC Magazine recently compiled a list of the 10 best sites for Baby Boomers. Unfortunately, 55Places.com did not make the cut, but we are confident that we that if the list included 11 websites instead of 10, we would have made the list!

On Wednesday, Eons.com founder Jeff Taylor lowered the age restriction of the popular 50 and older Baby Boomer social networking website…to 13. Eons has emerged in the last year as the number one social networking site for Baby Boomers. The popular site previously banned anyone younger than 50 from being a member. The Wall Street Journal hailed the site as the “Myspace for Baby Boomers” and it has grown widely in popularity in the last year.
