When it comes to active adult communities in Nevada, Las Vegas is not the only option. 450 miles northwest of the glamour and glitz of Las Vegas is Reno. In stark contrast to the desert area surrounding Las Vegas retirement communities, Reno is a lush playground surrounded by mountains that offer abundant outdoor recreational opportunities such as hiking, mountain biking and snow skiing. Plus, the town of Reno and its many festivals has much to offer for older adults who are looking for active retirement living options. As more and more retirees flock to Reno, Del Webb’s Sierra Canyon has emerged as a favorite community among 55 and older homebuyers.
Sierra Canyon is the largest active adult community in Reno, and the only one that offers new construction homes. Upon completion, Sierra Canyon will be home to 1,200 residences. It is part of the larger master planned community of Somersett, which is home to a private 18-hole golf course designed by Tom Kite.
Aspen Lodge is Sierra Canyon’s clubhouse that acts as the social and activity hub in the community. It includes 20,000 square feet of space that hosts a state-of-the-art fitness center, indoor walking track, indoor pool and hobby and craft rooms. There is also an outdoor spa, tennis courts and miles of scenic trails in the community.
Homebuyers at Del Webb in Reno can select from nine single family floor plan choices that range in size from 1,241 to 2,464 square feet. The homes are equipped with some of the latest sought after included features and popular open floor plan designs that are ideal for entertaining. There are several pre-owned resale homes currently on the real estate market but a majority of the homes that are available for sale can be purchased as new construction from Del Webb. Homes in Sierra Canyon are currently priced from around $200,000 to the mid $400’s.
