Description/Overview
The Villages in Florida is the largest age-restricted active adult retirement community in the world. What started in 1978 as a small manufactured home adult community has blossomed into a magnificently planned city for 55+ residents. It spans three counties, two zip codes and over 20,000 acres. The entire community is connected by nearly 100 miles of golf cart accessible trails. The Villages is entirely self-sustaining with two downtown centers complete with shopping, retail and business districts. At its completion, the community will be home to over 100,000 residents. The level of amenities and social activity in the Villages is superior to any active retirement community across the country. In fact, the weekly publication listing events, social activities, club news and classes is over 40 pages long.
There are over 30 golf courses throughout the community. Residents of The Villages enjoy free golf for life on any of the executive courses (championship courses are not free). In addition, The Villages residents have access to countless pools, clubhouses and recreation facilities ranging from tennis courts to bowling alleys. Nearly every social interest group or activity is represented in the community. For those who do not find a club or interest group that matches their needs, the solution is simple: start a new club.
The Villages provides a wide variety of housing. Older manufactured homes are available at very reasonable prices. All homes built since the 1990's are single family or town homes. Residents can choose from both new and resale homes.
