Across the country, there are many stunning active adult communities that offer luxurious resort-style amenities and beautiful homes in attractive settings. Sometimes these lavish 55+ communities are pricy because of all the amenities and services they offer to homeowners. Location may also play a factor in why some of the most expensive communities have homes listed above the $1 million price range.

Retirees who don’t live on a fixed budget may have the means to splurge on an expensive home in a luxurious 55+ community. While there are hundreds of active adult communities, we’ve only selected communities with a 55+ age restriction to narrow down for this list. So, if you have a healthy bank account and hefty retirement savings, then check out these 10 most expensive age-restricted communities in the U.S.

Foster Square – Foster City, CA

(Mid $900’s – High $1 Mil)

This new 55+ community is just 25 miles south of the vibrant city of San Francisco, making Foster Square an attractive location in the Bay Area. Lennar Homes broke ground in 2016 and plans to build 200 condo units upon completion. The builder offers active adult homebuyers a wide selection of distinct floor plans that range in size from 1,144 to 2,172 square feet and have two or three bedrooms and two or two-and-a-half bathrooms. These luxurious condos feature elegant master suites, large family rooms, gourmet kitchens, decks, and elevator access.

Although this age-restricted community doesn’t include a clubhouse, residents of Foster Square enjoy a variety of outdoor recreational facilities including a basketball court, tennis court, picnic area, walking and biking trails, scenic lake and pond, and plenty of parks and natural space.

Sol y Mar – Rancho Palos Verdes, CA

(Mid $800’s – Mid $1 Mil)

One of Southern California’s newest active adult communities will offer just 60 attached homes within an intimate and tranquil setting that’s close to the scenic Pacific Coast as well as the excitement of Los Angeles. Taylor Morrison’s first active adult community in Rancho Palos Verdes will feature luxurious townhomes that incorporate Mediterranean and Spanish-style architecture that blends with the Southern California aesthetic. Buyers can choose from six unique floor plans that range in size from 1,550 to 1,895 square feet and have two bedrooms, a den, two to three bathrooms, and an attached two-car garage. Homes include high-end finishes, stainless steel appliances, walk-in closets, and elegant island kitchens.

Taylor Morrison will also provide a beautiful clubhouse that acts as the central hub of social activities and physical recreation for all residents to enjoy. Some of the world-class amenities include a fitness center, catering kitchen, outdoor patio and spa, bocce ball courts, a dog park, and miles of walking and biking trails.

Gavilan – Rancho Mission Viejo, CA

(Low $700’s – Low $1 Mil)

Gavilan is a gated, age-restricted community within the master-planned development of Rancho Mission Viejo in the Orange County Area that will consist of 1,200 attached and single-family homes upon completion. This 55+ community offers an assortment of upscale home styles that were developed by multiple builders including William Lyon Homes, Standard Pacific, Shea Homes, and Del Webb.

Residents living in this lavish active adult community also enjoy world-class amenities spread throughout the development. A private 9,200 square-foot clubhouse is the central hub of physical activity and social recreation for the 55+ residents. They also have access to all of the amenities found within the master-planned community of Rancho Mission Viejo where they can socialize with neighbors and build lasting friendships.

In addition to these luxurious amenities, Gavilan will also offer four new amenity centers such as the Hilltop Club, Outlook, Pavilion, and Canyon House, which will offer even more indoor and outdoor resort-style amenities and recreational facilities that are sure to keep homeowners active throughout the year.

Sabal Ridge – Boca Raton, FL

(Mid $800’s – Mid $1 Mil)

Retirees looking for a beach retirement destination should check out Sabal Ridge. This age-restricted development is a beautiful and charming 55-plus community in Boca Raton, Florida. Sabal Ridge features well-appointed amenities, private beach access, and scenic ocean or lake views. Arvida Corporation developed Sabal Ridge in 1968 and it consists of one 17-story condo building with just 31 luxurious units. Residences offer low-maintenance living and units range in size from 2,750 to 6,000 square feet.

Some of the stunning features of these condos include open floor plans, oversized master suites, assigned garage parking spaces, gourmet kitchens, and multiple balconies overlooking the Atlantic Ocean or Lake Boca Raton.

Four Seasons at The Promenade – Warren, NJ

(Low $700’s – Mid $1 Mil)

Four Seasons at The Promenade is a lavish 55+ community in Somerset County, New Jersey that was built by premier builder K. Hovnanian between 2007 and 2014. This 160-home community offers beautiful attached and single-family resale homes that range in size from approximately 2,500 to just over 3,200 square feet and feature first-floor master suites, open layouts, vaulted ceilings, gourmet kitchens, and ample storage areas.

Four Seasons at The Promenade not only provides a quiet and intimate setting, but it also offers world-class amenities and a vibrant lifestyle that attracts retirees from across the country. The heart of this age-restricted neighborhood is the 7,300 square-foot clubhouse that has a fitness center, meeting spaces, a card room, billiards room, lounge, and a fireplace. The Monmouth – Wall, NJ

This age-restricted condo community in Monmouth County was developed between 2005 and 2011 and consists of just 96 units. This 55+ community is comprised of 198 condos spread across 209 acres within the Haverford Reserve master-planned community. Homebuyers can find new and resale condos within the age-restricted section that feature open layouts, private terraces, nine-foot ceilings, energy-efficient appliances, and elevator access.

Athertyn at Haverford Reserve also provides homeowners a beautifully decorated, private clubhouse brimming with indoor and outdoor amenities.
