- Active adult communities are designed to support a healthy, active lifestyle for older adults. Some communities are age-restricted, which means that residents must be over a certain age. Other communities target active adults over a certain age, but do not have any restrictions on who can live within the community.
- Active adult communities range from intimate neighborhoods to sprawling resorts, but The Villages is in a class of its own. Though this sizable Florida town began in 1978 as a small neighborhood, The Villages will contain approximately 75,000 homes upon completion. What’s more, this impressive age-restricted community spans three counties, three zip codes and over 20,000 acres.
- Our neighbors to the north are also seeing an increased interest in active adult communities. Though many Canadian snowbirds choose to winter in the warmer, southern portions of the United States, other Canadians enjoy resort-style living year round--without crossing the border.
