According to a recent study in the Journal of Happiness, staying active is an essential part of staying happy. Whether you enjoy working out at the gym, taking an exercise class with friends, or spending half an hour walking outside in the fresh Florida air, it’s important to make physical activity an easy and natural part of your day.

Living in a community with the right facilities and amenities can help. Active adults looking for a great Palm Beach County home with indoor and outdoor opportunities to stay fit should consider these five neighborhoods.

Century Village at West Palm Beach – West Palm Beach

Below $100k – High $100s

An indoor resistance pool, eight outdoor pools, and 39 shuffleboard courts are some of the reasons that 55+ residents have an easy time staying active at Century Village at West Palm Beach. This gated condo community makes fitness and physical activity a part of daily life. There’s tennis, an aerobics studio, and a fitness center inside the 92,000 square-foot clubhouse. Residents have access to a number of group fitness classes, including aerobics and water aerobics.

Condos are affordable and low-maintenance. Buyers can choose from 10 different floor plans that range in size from 615 square-foot one-bedroom units to homes with two bedrooms and over 1,000 square feet. West Palm Beach offers an array of championship golf courses and several miles of coastline which helps residents stay active when they’re not at home.

Villaggio Reserve – Delray Beach

High $300s – Low $500s

There’s a state-of-the-art fitness center inside the 38,000 square-foot clubhouse at Villaggio Reserve in Delray Beach. Residents can enjoy workouts on some of the most modern strength training and cardio equipment available. This gated 55+ community also has outdoor pools, tennis courts, bocce, and pickleball. A number of walking and biking trails pass through scenic lakes and ponds all over the property. Residents can take classes in ballroom dancing, yoga, and Zumba.

600 single-family and attached villas are available on a resale basis, most with two or three bedrooms and dens. The homeowners' association fees include lawn care as well as all amenities and exterior maintenance. In Delray Beach, there are museums and galleries to explore as well as Wakodahatchee Wetlands, which provides a stunning walk along a raised boardwalk.

Tuscany Bay – Boynton Beach

Low $200s - Low $300s 

Fitness is easy to find in Boynton Beach at Tuscany Bay. This gated, 55+ community offers a modern fitness center complete with an aerobics and dance studio, which makes it easy to take a group class or stretch on your own. There’s Tai Chi and yoga, as well as dancercise, aerobics, and Pilates. Residents also stay active on the putting green, the shuffleboard courts, and the tennis courts. There’s an outdoor pool and paved trails for walking and biking.

Tuscany Bay is made up of 395 single-family homes and attached villas. The villas have two bedrooms and two bathrooms and range in size from 1,357 to 1,527 square feet. The larger homes are between 1,545 and 1,996 square feet and have two bedrooms and a den. In Boynton Beach, it’s easy to be fit while having fun at the beach. Try Gulfstream Park or Oceanfront Park Beach for swimming, fishing, or boating opportunities.

Castellina – Wellington

High $300s – High $600s

A full-time activities director helps residents stay active at Castellina, a newer community in Wellington without age restrictions. The fitness center is incredible, and there’s also an aerobics studio, tennis and bocce courts, and a field for outdoor sports. Aerobics classes and other fitness classes meet regularly, and water aerobics is popular in the resort-style pool.

Castellina is made up of 260 new and resale single-family homes in large floor plans. All models have between two and four bedrooms, while some also have dens. Homes have between 1,486 and 3,292 square feet of living space. The mall is within walking distance, and the town of Wellington offers fishing piers, excellent medical facilities, and a large aquatic center for swimming and water sports.

Valencia Shores – Lake Worth

High $300s – Mid $600s

One of the clubhouses at Valencia Shores in Lake Worth is named The Athletic Club. It includes locker rooms, a fitness center, an aerobics and dance studio, and a lap pool. There’s a whirlpool spa as well as racquetball and tennis courts. Classes at this gated 55+ community include yoga, water aerobics, Zumba, cardio, and line dancing. There’s a fitness committee, a softball team, and a tennis club. Residents can enjoy a putting green and a lakeside beach.

Valencia Shores is comprised of 1,143 single-family homes in two models and more than 10 floor plans. Most homes are two or three bedrooms plus a den. Lake Worth is close to all of Palm Beach County’s other cities, including West Palm Beach and Boca Raton, making it easy for active adults to get out and explore.
