With 1,631 homes, builder Robson Communities designed Sunbird to offer a more intimate 55+ neighborhood than many of the larger active adult communities in the area. Even so, this age-restricted development still has plenty of amenities.
Some of the highlights include an 18-hole executive golf course, a spacious clubhouse, a fitness center, sports courts, hobby and game rooms, and two outdoor swimming pools. For active adults who want a smaller community in the popular Phoenix area, it is easy to see how Sunbird’s affordable homes and fun recreations just might fit the bill.
In 1988, Robson Communities opened Sunbird just three miles from its popular Sun Lakes community. The community was planned to appeal to 55+ active adults who were looking for affordable housing in a smaller development. The community’s 1,631 residences, including both single-family and manufactured homes, were completed by 1998.
Today’s homebuyers can choose from Sunbird’s available resale homes. These residences were originally built in three collections: the Premiere Series, the Classic Series, and the Villa Series. Both the Premiere and Classic Series feature single-family homes with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and attached garages. They range from 900 to 1,680 square feet.
The Villa Series offers active adults low-maintenance living with its affordable manufactured homes. These thoughtfully-designed homes range from 745 to 920 square feet, which makes them ideal for single owners or for couples who aren’t looking for a lot of space. Villa Series floor plans have one or two bedrooms, one or two bathrooms, and one-car garages.
Sunbird’s 18-hole golf course winds throughout the community, offering scenic backdrops for many of the homesites. This 4,350 yard, par 66 executive course was designed by Gary Panks to let golfers enjoy a shorter, more relaxing game. For more challenging play, resident golfers can take their pick of several championship courses just outside of the community.
The Sunbird clubhouse offers plenty of recreation opportunities for non-golfers as well. The 43,000-square-foot recreation center has popular amenities such as a fitness room, a lounge, a library, billiards and card rooms, ceramics and lapidary studios, meeting rooms, and a multipurpose ballroom. The clubhouse also lets residents share a drink or have a friendly meal at the bar and grill or community restaurant.
In addition to the executive golf course, Sunbird’s outdoor recreations feature amenities like the resort-style swimming pool and spa, its surrounding sundeck, and a spacious patio. Two of the four tennis courts are lighted for evening games. The tennis courts can also be used for pickleball during specified times, and one of the courts has a basketball hoop as well. For even more fun, residents can make use of Sunbird’s shuffleboard courts and horseshoe pits.
