Ever wondered if a 55+ community is the right fit for you? Try one out for yourself and find out.

Looking for a home in an active adult community means adding another step in the homebuying process. Though the home itself may be a perfect fit, the possibility remains that the community altogether won’t match the same standards. A quick tour of a community’s clubhouse and outdoor pool are probably not enough to figure out if a certain active adult community is right for you.

Fortunately, several 55+ communities have begun to offer “sneak-a-peak” events or “discovery packages” in order to remedy potential homebuyers concerns.

Through the program, homebuyers are treated as full fledged residents, including being able to live in the community and granted complete access to its amenities. By the end of the trial it is hoped that homebuyers will have gained a better understanding of the community and its lifestyle in able to make the most informed decision possible.

Though not every community offers this as of yet, several have added the feature. Here are just some of the many 55+ communities that allow homebuyers the chance to test out a community prior to making a purchase.

Del Webb Communities

For several of its communities, Del Webb offers two options when it comes to testing out their communities: an overnight pass and a day pass. For the overnight pass, you will, for a fee, stay in a fully furnished home and have complete access to whichever amenities are provided in that community. And, if available, a golf cart is given to explore the community and get in a round of golf.

For the day pass, lunch or dinner with an actual resident of the community is offered alongside being able to participate in a community activity, such as art class, bocce, or pickleball.
