Set in Plainfield, Illinois, Carillon has the distinction of being the first 55+ active adult community in the Chicago area. The community was opened in 1989 and has since developed into a lovely destination with an impressive clubhouse, diverse social and recreational amenities, and nearly 2,100 beautiful residences including condos, townhomes and single-family homes.
The Carillon community was originally opened in 1989 by Cenvil Homes with plans to become a much larger age-restricted development. After building less than 400 homes in three years, the project was divided and sold into several smaller developments. Cambridge Homes purchased the largest portion of the original project and opted to continue Carillon as a 55+ community. The development was completed in 2001 with a total of 2,097 homes. Today’s homebuyers can choose from available resale homes in over 39 diverse floor plans.
Homes in Carillon are spread across 16 neighborhoods, each with their own homeowners’ association. The Carillon Adult Master Association (CAMA) provides additional oversight throughout the community as a whole and maintains the development’s common amenities and elements. There are homes in styles to meet the needs of many homebuyers, including condos, townhomes, coach homes and single-family homes.
Condos in Carillon are located in Buckingham, a four-story elevator building with underground parking. These one and two bedroom condos were built in four different floor plans, ranging in size from 835 to 1,380 square feet. Each unit includes a master bedroom with a walk-in closet and a private balcony with an additional storage closet.
Carillon’s coach homes are two-story buildings which contain two residences on each level. Each unit has its own one-car garage and some second-story units have elevator access. Floor plans range from 1,035 to 1,334 square feet, with two to three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Coach homes offer low-maintenance living with association fees that include lawn care, snow removal and exterior home care.
Townhomes in Carillon include models built by both Cenvil Homes and Cambridge Homes in sizes ranging from 1,285 to 1,764 square feet. Residences built by Cenvil are the oldest in the community, yet many have been updated by homeowners. Townhomes have two-car garages and also have lawn care, snow removal and exterior home care included with their association fees.
Single-family homes by Cenvil Homes were built between 1989 and 1992 with floor plans from 1,523 to 2,535 square feet. Cambridge Homes continued the community with two collections of their own single-family homes: the Silver Cup Series and the Resort Series. Homes in the Silver Cup Series are designed to be affordable in sizes from 1,375 to 1,882 square feet. The Resort Series offers larger homes with modern finishes and upgraded features, sized from 1,680 to 2,322 square feet.
Beyond its inviting homes, Carillon provides resort-style amenities through its 32,000 square-foot clubhouse, Club Carillon. This impressive facility features indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a state-of-the-art fitness center, hobby and game rooms, arts and crafts studios, and multipurpose social areas. The beautiful grounds are highlighted by recreations including a 27-hole golf course, scenic lakes, a fishing lake, and sports courts for tennis, bocce ball, shuffleboard and horseshoes.
