These Central Pennsylvania communities have on-site exercise studios to help keep residents fit and healthy.

Sometimes the difference between a good fitness center and a great fitness center is the presence of an exercise studio. Having organized fitness classes with like-minded neighbors and talented instructors can be the motivation you need to get in shape. Classes like step aerobics, Zumba, and yoga, can become addicting—and can keep you toned, happy, and healthy.

Though not all clubhouses have fitness centers with exercise studios, there are enough out there to give you options. We looked at Central Pennsylvania real estate to see how many retirement communities we could find with this desirable feature, and here's what we came up with:

Brookshire - Manheim, PA

High $100s - Mid $200s

Brookshire is a peaceful 55+ community with 230 resale attached and single-family homes built from 2005 through 2014. It's located in scenic Lancaster County, home to Pennsylvania’s Amish County and one of the top retirement destinations on the East Coast.

There are four models sized from 1,520 to 2,050 square feet with two to three bedrooms, two or two-and-a-half bathrooms, and attached two-car garages. Extras may include dens, gas fireplaces, hot tubs, four-season rooms, and covered decks. The community’s homeowners’ association (HOA) fees take care of trash pickup, snow removal, lawn mowing, and common area maintenance.

You’ll find an aerobics studio inside the Brookshire Community Center, which also has a coffee shop, a game room, a banquet room, and an exercise room. There are also two bocce ball courts, walking trails, and a fishing lake outside. Homeowners can take part in a variety of community activities, such as aerobics classes, singing group, holiday parties, Bible study, Double Deck Pinochle, scrapbooking, and the Sunshine Committee.

Traditions of America at Liberty Hill - State College, PA

Mid $200s - Mid $400s

Heading out toward the western portion of Central PA, we find Traditions of America at Liberty Hill, a newer 55+ community with 282 resale attached and single-family homes. Being only about five miles from Penn State’s main campus offers the benefits of college games, continuing education classes, and shops, while also being far enough out to provide a peaceful oasis. However, you don’t need to drive into State College to run errands since there are several shopping centers just outside of the property. Also, the closest hospital, Mt. Nittany, is six miles away.

The six attached floor plans range from 1,261 to 1,883 square feet with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, roomy master suites, nine-foot ceilings, and two-car garages. The seven single-family models range from 1,274 to 2,314 square feet with similar features and backyard patios.

Like all Traditions of America communities, the neighborhood has highly sought-after amenities for homeowners to enjoy. The large clubhouse’s fitness center has an aerobics studio, an indoor whirlpool spa, a massage room, and saunas. It also offers a ballroom, a sports bar, a business center, a media room, sports courts, and a swimming pool. Residents can attend clubs and activities, like holiday parties, book club, movie nights, needlecraft, happy hours, and “music jam.”

Penn National - Fayetteville, PA

Mid $100s - High $600s

Close to the Maryland border, Penn National is a master-planned community with 1,100 new and resale attached and single-family homes. It's not age-restricted, but it's designed for active lifestyles and features Penn National Golf Club with two 18-hole golf courses and a stellar clubhouse. The latter has two restaurants, a business center, an exercise room, an aerobics studio, gathering rooms, and tennis, bocce ball, and pickleball courts. The beautiful property also has walking trails, ponds, lakes, and a community garden.

Some of the best-loved activities include the Red Hat Ladies, skiing, farmers markets, the fly-fishing club, exercise classes, and theater groups. Although the community is in more of a rural area, rest assured that there are plenty of conveniences nearby, including a Walmart, GIANT Foods, Weis Markets, the Chambersburg Mall, restaurants, and the WellSpan Hospital Network.

Traditions of America at East Petersburg - East Petersburg, PA

High $200s - Mid $300s

For our final entry, we present another Lancaster area 55+ community, Traditions of America at East Petersburg. When work is complete, there will be 242 new attached and single-family homes in six floor plans. These range from 1,536 to almost 3,000 square feet with two attached models and five single-family models. All offer customizable floor plans with two to three bedrooms, two to three bathrooms, and attached two-car garages. Upgrades may include crown molding, granite counters, hardwood floors, and luxury master suites. The HOA fee includes lawn mowing, common area and exterior building maintenance, and snow removal.
