Charlotte, North Carolina is the fastest growing city in the southeast. It’s full of cultural amenities like theaters and museums, it has a vast selection of entertainment options that range from professional sports teams to the U.S. National Whitewater Center, and it has both a vibrant culinary scene and an evolving craft brewing scene.
There are many reasons why the city is so desirable to active adults looking to retire in the South, but with a big city comes some hassles like higher taxes and housing prices. Luckily, the surrounding area boasts several active adult communities that are just outside the city. These neighborhoods allow residents to easily commute in and out of the city while avoiding the inconveniences that come along with living directly in the city.
One of the most popular areas outside of Charlotte that’s drawing a lot of attention is the town of Mooresville, which is conveniently located near Charlotte’s major highway, I-77, and Lake Norman.
Here are five communities in the area to consider:
Courtyards at Blume Point
Courtyards at Blume Point is the latest active adult community to be built in the Mooresville area. Epcon Communities plans to build 71 new, single-family homes within the small, age-restricted community. Prices start in the mid $300s, with three customizable home models to choose from. Residences will range from 1,519 to 2,923 square feet of living space with two bedrooms, two baths, and two-and-a-half car garages. Homeowners will also have the options for additions like porches and second-level bonus suites.
Final plans for amenities within the community include a clubhouse, an exercise room, a catering kitchen, and multi-purpose rooms. Outdoors, residents will find a pool and patio, walking and biking trails, parks, greenspaces, and several scenic lakes and ponds.
Another perk of living in Courtyards at Blue Point is the homeowner’s association which takes care of yard work, landscaping, and exterior home care, giving residents more time to enjoy retirement and the neighborhood’s amenities.
Johnson Manor is another new community in the Mooresville area. The small neighborhood will be comprised of 114 attached and single-family homes upon completion with prices starting in the mid $200s. The builder, Benchmark Communities will offer two home collections that range from 1,473 square feet to 1,950 square feet. The collections’ five floor plans will feature between two to three bedrooms, two to two-and-a-half bathrooms, and two-car garages.
Plans for Johnson Manor also include several amenities, such as a clubhouse, an exercise room, a meeting room, a reading room, a catering kitchen, an outdoor patio, ornamental gardens and gardening plots as well as parks, natural space, and walking and biking trails.
Lake Walk Freedom Homes
D.R. Horton began construction on the Lake Walk Freedom Homes community in 2017 and plans to build a total of 121 single-family residences. With prices starting in the mid $200s and five floor plans to choose from, only new homes are available. Sizes range from 1,588 to 1,906 square feet with two to three bedrooms, two baths, and two-car garages. The community also offers residents the chance to live a low-maintenance lifestyle with a homeowners’ association that takes care of chores like lawn care and snow removal.
Noteworthy amenities in the community include an outdoor pool and patio, bocce ball and pickleball courts, a dog park, walking and biking trails, R.V. and boat parking, and a boating lake. Along with its amenities, Lake Walk is conveniently located near I-77, making it easy for residents to get to and from Charlotte and everything the city has to offer.
Meadows At Coddle Creek
The Meadows at Coddle Creek is also a new, small community in Mooresville. The age-restricted neighbor is being built by D.R. Horton and will have a total of 128 single-family residences available. Prices start in the mid $200s, and there are nine floor plans for potential homebuyers to consider. Sizes range from 1,588 to 2,729 square feet with two to four bedrooms, two to three bathrooms, and a two-car garage.
Residents of Meadows At Coddle Creek will have access to a variety of amenities like a clubhouse, multi-purpose rooms, an outdoor pool and patio, bocce ball courts, a playground for grandchildren to enjoy, and nature trails spread throughout the development.
The Courtyards at Brawley Point
Consisting of only 30 single-family homes, the Courtyards at Brawley Point is the smallest active lifestyle community in the Mooresville area. Homes offers three floor plans that are between 1,519 and 2,769 square feet with two to three bedrooms, two to three bathrooms, a den, and two-and-a-half-car garages.
Homeowners will reap the benefits of a low-maintenance lifestyle with the homeowners’ association taking care of most chores, including exterior home maintenance, lawn care, weekly trash removal, driveway repair, and pest control. Amenities within the small, tight-knit community include the Brawley Point Community Pavilion, scenic ponds, fountains, and walking trails.
