Ford's Colony was opened in 1987 and is continuing to be developed today by multiple builders. The community features several distinct neighborhoods, including some with condos and attached homes. However, most homes in the community are custom single-family designs. Upon completion, the development is expected to contain about 3,250 homes.
While Ford's Colony is open to residents of all ages, it is an appealing destination for older active adults. Some neighborhoods are gated for additional security and there are many low-maintenance home styles. Residents throughout the community can also choose from a variety of membership options to enjoy the amenities at Ford's Colony Country Club.
The clubhouse at Ford's Colony Country Club welcomes members with a dining room, banquet facilities and meeting rooms. On-site dining options also include Harry's Tavern and the Grille Room. Residents can enjoy the area's natural beauty while exploring miles of trails or birdwatching in the 200-acre wildlife preserve. When it comes to golf, Ford's Colony Country Club shines with three semi-private 18-hole courses: Blackheath, Blue Heron and Marsh Hawk. These courses were designed by Dan Maples to offer their own distinctive play. The Marsh Hawk course opened in 1985 with traditional tree-lined fairways and it has been used for many championship tournaments. The other two courses have been open in their current configurations since 1999. The Blue Heron is the club's longest course, stretching to 6,928 yards from its longest tees, while the Blackheath is a par 71 course which has water in play on 13 holes.

These homes feature floor plans ranging from about 1,700 to 2,100 square feet, which include one to three bedrooms, at least two full bathrooms and covered parking. One and two-story townhomes, ranging from about 1,300 to 2,200 square feet, are also available within The Links at Ford's Colony.
Active adults who prefer single-family homes have even more options. Both new construction and resale homes are available in many different neighborhoods.
