Illinois 55+ Communities with Easy Access to Chicago

Whether by car or Metra train, these communities make it easy to get to Chicago.

Fortunately, there are a number of communities nearby, all of which are within close proximity to Metra stations. Read on to learn more about just some of the communities within range of Chicago.

Villas at SouthburyOswego

Mid $200s – High $300s

A small community of just 107 homes, Villas at Southbury is located in Oswego, Illinois. The community was developed by Orleans Homes and offers four models of homes to choose from, all of which range from 1,477 to 1,933 square feet. Each home offers at least two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an attached two-car garage.

Additionally, residents will never have to worry about lawn care or driveway maintenance thanks to a reasonable homeowners’ association fee.

For entertainment, Villas at Southbury offers a private clubhouse that is only available to residents of the Southbury master-planned community. Inside, homeowerns have a variety of activities to choose. The fitness room comes with state-of-the-art machines as well as a studio space where residents can attend fitness classes.

The community also hosts other activities throughout the year, such as movie nights, book clubs, and common interest groups.

Although Oswego currently does not have its own Metra station, a nearby station in Aurora is just twenty minutes away. By train, Chicago is just 45 minutes away, making it an easily accessible day-trip.

Park BarringtonBarrington

Mid $200s – High $400s

Located northwest of Chicago, Park Barrington is a tight-knit active lifestyle community of 118 resale homes. Encompassing 30 acres of land, the communities single-family homes offer two to four bedrooms, two to three bathrooms, and two-car garages. Most homes will offer first-floor master suites, as well as large living rooms, fenced yards, and full basements.

The community sits adjacent to Ron Beese Park, an 80-acre park that features hiking trails, gardening plot, cross country ski trails, nature areas, and even a playground for when grandkids come to visit. With so much open space, residents can also look forward to activities and events throughout the year, including movie nights and more.

Less than 10 minutes away from Park Barrington is a Metra station, which provides service to Chicago. Through the train, the city is about 45 minutes away, making for an easy to reach destination.

Hampton Park Naperville

Low $300s – High $300s

Hampton Park is a 55+ community in Naperville, Illinois. Comprised of just 62 attached homes, these low-maintenance homes offer 1,567 to 1,948 square feet of living space. Most floor plans designed for Hampton Park feature two bedrooms, two to three bathrooms, and an attached two-car garage. Regardless of model, each home offers single-level living that comes with lovely brick exteriors and basements.

Residents of the community can often be found enjoying a private community clubhouse. Here, homeowners can find everything from a multipurpose room for hosting events to an exercise room for getting in a workout.

Naperville is just 34 miles west of downtown Chicago, making the city easily accessible by car. Also conveniently close by is a Metra station, which sits just five minutes away from the community.

Lake Barrington ShoresBarrington

High $100s – High $400s

Finally, rounding out the list is Lake Barrington Shores. The community is made up of 1,317 attached homes, most of which feature first-floor master suites.

Each of the homes range from 933 to 4,600 square feet and offer one to four bedrooms, one to four bathrooms, and attached one-to two-car garages.

Lake Barrington Shores provides a community clubhouse called The Lodge at The Shores. There is an onsite fitness center that is available for residents to use 24 hours a day. There are also plenty of gathering spaces for both community events and private parties. An indoor pool is open year-round while an outdoor pool is a popular spot during the summer months.

Near the community is Lake Barrington Shores Country Club, which offers an 18-hole golf course. Residents of the community can purchase a membership at a reduced price. The community also has a marina on the shore of the 96-acre Lake Barrington, which is used by residents for storing boats.

Barrington Metra Station is less than five miles away. Barrington is less than forty miles away from Chicago, making it easy to access all that the city has to offer.
