Kern City is an established 55+ active adult community in Bakersfield, California. It was opened by Del Webb in 1961 after the developer finished work on Sun City, Arizona — which was itself the first community of its kind in the nation. Both properties share many of Del Webb's signature features, though Kern City is the smaller of the two.
