You don’t just have to listen to us, though. We’ve talked with some current residents of the community to get the real scoop. If you’re considering Sun City Shadow Hills as your next community you can hear about it straight from the source.
An Active and Friendly Community
Sandie Young had been vacationing in the Palm Springs area for 30 years when she decided to pack up and head west from Wisconsin. While she knew nothing of the community at first, she took to the community after being shown around and finding a rental unit.
“My favorite things continue to be all the activities that are available, the beautiful surroundings, and the friendly, inviting people,” said Sandie “I like the ‘gated community’ aspect and safety of it all as well. And, I like that the accessibility to community is easy and fast.”
Sandie has also joined numerous clubs during her one year in the community.
“I am a member of the Lively Liners (line dancing), the Writer’s Club, Computer Club, and Solo’s Club. I am also in a Spanish class. I joined more when I first moved here, but, I was too busy and I had to make some choices.”
For homeowners Paul and PJ Nilson, the social scene has also been a big part of their enjoyment of Sun City Shadow Hills. They even started a few clubs of their own. “We started many clubs and joined others.”
Modern Homes and Amenities
For the Nilson’s it was the homes in Sun City Shadow Hills that helped them make the switch. “The quality of the home sold us. The amenities offered are great, we watched the clubhouse being built.”
For Sandie Young, it’s the lifestyle options that keep her coming back to the community amenities. “I use the lifestyles classes the most, along with the pool, and the social events that lifestyles sponsors.”
Besides just modern homes, the people of Sun City Shadow Hills have made the community a friendly place. “We made many friends and visit back and forth. We are in a valley and we enjoy the friendliness,” said the Nilsons.
Sandie has also taken to the friendliness of neighbors in the community. “I love the social scene. My neighbors are super friendly and helpful. It was pretty easy meeting them. We have neighborhood get-togethers from time to time and lifestyles sponsors dances and other events I’ve attended throughout the year.”
With everything going on in the community, sometimes its desirable location gets ignored. Neither Sandie Young or Paul and PJ Nilson worry about that though.
“There are many wonderful choices for eating out, and we have many theaters for live entertainment,” said the Nilsons. “We like the freedom to chose to join or just stay home and enjoy our home.”
Sandie knew long before moving to Sun City Shadow Hills that the Palm Springs area was her desired place to settle down. Besides having a son living in nearby San Diego, the area itself gives her many different entertainment options.
“Since I’ve been coming to the Palm Springs area for many years I’m very familiar with all the sights and sounds of the surrounding communities. I go to restaurants from time to time, shopping as well. I visit all the surrounding attractions—Joshua Tree National Park, the Date Gardens, the tram, Idyllwild, and many other places in the southwest. I’ve also attended theater in the community—The Palm Canyon Theater in Palm Springs and the McCallum at the College of the Desert.”
With so many things to do, club amenities to use, and neighbors to meet, it’s no wonder why so many residents of Sun City Shadow Hills don’t regret their decision. Even as Sandie returns from a trip to her native Wisconsin she feels just as confident in her choice. “I can assure you, even in the heat, I would much rather be here! I love it!”
