Del Webb announced the development of a new active adult community near Haymarket, Virginia. Carter’s Mill is one of ten new communities that 55+ community developer Del Webb expects to open between summer 2019 and summer 2020. Located in the D.C. area, Carter’s Mill will include 480 brand new homes when complete.

Homes Built With Homeowners in Mind

Del Webb plans to build both single-family and attached villa homes at Carter’s Mill. Although they have not yet released floor plans, Del Webb’s models cater to active adult living. Homes feature first-floor master suites, open layouts, ample living and entertaining space, and customizable home features. As a builder of 55+ communities across the country, Del Webb designs homes that fit both the community’s style and the lifestyle of prospective homebuyers.

Socially Active Lifestyle

Like all Del Webb communities, Carter’s Mill is built with a socially active lifestyle in mind. The community will include a 12,000-square foot clubhouse designed for staying active, physically and socially. The clubhouse features a craft room, a game room, social spaces, a meeting room, and a cafe. Residents can stay fit in the fitness center, movement studio, or indoor pool. They can also swim in the outdoor pool, play a game of bocce or pickleball, or spend time in the community garden or community parks.

Building on Successful Community Designs

Carter’s Mill builds on Del Webb’s decades of experience with active adult communities. The award-winning builder prides itself on connection, quality, and ease. Del Webb communities made up almost half of’s list of The 55 Best Active Adult Communities 2019.

The latest ten developments reflect a change in active adult homebuyers from baby boomers to GenXers. Del Webb says that they will continue to build resort-style communities with ample amenities, but they’re also focusing on urban and suburban environments to suit homebuyers with differing lifestyle priorities. Carter’s Mill is located in Haymarket, a growing Washington, D.C. suburb on the edge of the Shenandoah Valley.

Between City and Country

The community’s location in the D.C. suburbs offers residents the best of the city and country. Haymarket itself has a small main street with restaurants, ice cream shops, and cafes. Located right next to Carter’s Mill is the Haymarket Village Center, which features chains like Starbucks and Chick-fil-A alongside grocery stores and pharmacies.

Although the community offers many amenities, residents have many other places to explore in the local area. Wineries and breweries have become abundant in the area. Nearby parks and recreation areas are perfect for hiking, walking, picnicking, and fishing. Golfers will appreciate the proximity to Dominion Valley Golf Club, Stonewall Golf Club, and Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. Residents are also about 45 minutes from Downtown Washington, D.C. and 30 minutes from Dulles International Airport.
