Many retirement communities are located near restaurants, but a large number of communities also have on-site eateries. Some are cozy cafes or pubs, while others offer full-service dining. Taking a look at New York real estate, we have found six active lifestyle communities that have on-site restaurants or convenient dining facilities.
High $200s - Low $700s
Though Heritage Hills is not age-restricted, it's a master-planned community designed for active lifestyles. This established, gated community is in the beautiful Hudson River Valley, and it has 2,600 resale condo and single-family homes.
In addition to having restaurants on its property, Heritage Hills has a clubhouse with an exercise room and sauna, crafts studios, and gathering rooms. Another great perk is the Somers Pointe Country Club, which is right in the neighborhood. There are also five outdoor swimming pools; tennis, pickleball, and bocce ball courts; gardening plots; and a long list of clubs and activities.
Heritage Hills has a limited number of detached homes ranging from around 1,200 to 1,700 square feet with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and attached two-car garages. The majority of homes in this neighborhood are condos ranging from 955 to 1,909 square feet with one to three bedrooms, one to two-and-a-half bathrooms, and carports or attached garages. Options include eat-in kitchens and private backyards with patios. The homeowners’ association (HOA) fee covers trash and snow removal and exterior maintenance.
High $400s - Mid $1Ms
This gated, 55+ community in West Long Island is geared for downsizing, with 1,200 resale condo and attached homes. It also has a golf course that homeowners may join for an additional fee. The restaurant and bar are inside the 30,000-square-foot clubhouse which also has an indoor and outdoor pool, tennis courts, saunas, a fitness center, and a multipurpose room. Residents of The Greens at Half Hollow also get together for golf games, holiday fairs, and musical performances.
The two condo models are sized at 1,100 or 1,140 square feet with two bedrooms, one-and-a-half or two bathrooms, and private outdoor space. Upgrades include granite countertops and vaulted ceilings. The five attached models range from 1,940 to 3200 square feet with two or three bedrooms, two or two-and-a-half bathrooms, and attached garages. Upgrades include vaulted ceilings, eat-in kitchens, hardwood floors, and Mediterranean-style courtyard entries. The HOA fee covers certain community amenities.
High $400s - Low $1Ms
Meadowbrook Pointe Athletic Club & Spa is also in West Long Island, with 720 resale condo and attached homes. The gated property was completed in 2016, just minutes from Eisenhower Park and Nassau University Medical Center.
Meadowbrook is a 62+ community with resort-style amenities at its private clubhouse. Here, residents can grab a bite to eat, work out at the fitness center and aerobics studio, and swim at the indoor and outdoor pools. Additional amenities include a golf simulator, a business center, a spa, a ballroom, and bocce ball and tennis courts.
The luxury models range from 970 to 3,359 square feet with two to three bedrooms, two to three bathrooms, hardwood floors, gourmet kitchens, stainless steel appliances, luxuriously appointed designer bathrooms, and plenty of parking. Moving towards East Long Island, we find the gated Meadowbrook Pointe Links & Spa, a 55+ community slated for 280 new and resale attached homes. It features a golf course setting, world-class amenities, and maintenance-free living.
The sports bar and lounge is located in the elegant clubhouse, and it's the perfect place to relax after playing golf or working out at the fitness center. There's also a ballroom, a hobby room, an outdoor pool, and pickleball, bocce ball, and tennis courts.
