North Carolina is also an excellent option for active adults looking to downsize, as it’s home to several active adult communities that feature low-maintenance condos at a variety of price points. Here are five communities to consider:

Bailey’s Glen - Cornelius, NC

High $200s - Mid $500s

Bailey’s Glen is an age-restricted community located just a short drive from Charlotte in the small town of Cornelius. Built by South Creek Homes, the development offers six floor plans for condominiums that vary between 1,295 and 1,584 square feet of living space. The plans include one to two bedrooms, one-and-a-half to two-and-a-half bathrooms, and the option to have either a garage or underground parking.

Amenities within the 55+ community include the 12,000-square-foot Meetinghouse, a ballroom, a sports pub, a card room, an arts and crafts studio, and an exercise room. Outside amenities range from two pools and walking and biking trails to a pet park and several athletic courts.

Cummings Cove - Hendersonville, NC

Situated in Western North Carolina in the scenic mountain town of Hendersonville is the gated community Cummings Cove. Originally built in 1988 by Cummings Cove Company LLC, the development features several condominiums that are approximately 1,300 square feet with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and carport parking.

Floor plans vary from studios to two-bedroom units with as little as 560 square feet to more than 1,000 square feet of living space.
