Golf at Riverwood
While Riverwood welcomes residents of all ages, its amenities, activities, and prime location will particularly appeal to active adults with active lifestyles. The community spreads over 1,300 acres and is comprised of 28 different individual neighborhoods. It also includes an eagle preserve and bird sanctuary, as well as beautiful landscaping that incorporates the area’s native vegetation.
Golf is a popular pastime in Florida and resident golfers love playing at the Riverwood Golf Club. This par 72, 18-hole course was designed by Gene Bates to offer challenging play to both beginners and advanced golfers. Along with fantastic play, the course sprawls through beautiful terrain which includes pines, salt marsh, and wetlands. Plus, many of the homes in Riverwood offer fabulous views of the course.
Joe Hayden, a local real estate agent who has lived in the area for 25 years, agrees that the course at Riverwood Golf Club is one of the area’s finest and most challenging. In describing the course, he says, “its vast layout through natural Florida wetlands has a lot of water and wildlife, and a golfer won’t be in range of hitting someone’s tile roof or looking for lost balls in someone’s yard.”
Hayden also points out that there are many interesting attractions just outside of Riverwood. Adjacent to the community, the El Jobean Post Office and General Store is a reminder of the El Jobean settlement, circa 1900. The Charlotte Sports Park is only three miles away, and world class fishing can be found in nearby Boca Grande. Shopping and dining are also readily available only minutes from Riverwood.
“The Port Charlotte Town Center appeared 20 years ago,” Hayden says. “It created a shopping mecca for the entire area at the same time when Riverwood started coming out of the ground.”
Developed in the midst of Florida’s beautiful wetlands and native vegetation, Riverwood offers gorgeous living with plenty of amenities and social activities. With its humid, subtropical climate, and mild winters, many active adults looking for their next home in Florida will appreciate all that Riverwood has to offer.
