From its affordability to its colorful culture, San Antonio is one of the best places to retire in Texas. Part of the picturesque Texas Hill Country, San Antonio is home to multiple communities that appeal to active adults. For many retirees, a community’s appeal doesn’t come so much from age restriction as it does from a community’s amenities and lifestyle.
In the 2019 55places National Housing Survey, we asked more than 2,500 potential and recent homebuyers interested in active adult communities about what they look for in a home, community, and other relevant aspects of the homebuying process.
The survey results revealed that age restriction isn’t the most important consideration for many active adult homebuyers. According to the survey, 36 percent of active adults said an active adult community is more about living in an outgoing, social community of like-minded people than it is about living in a community with age restrictions. Only 26 percent of respondents agreed with the latter statement.
Even more telling, more than half (56 percent) of respondents said they would live in either an age-restricted or all-ages community if it had the home, amenities, and lifestyle they wanted. Less than one percent of respondents said they would only move to a community with age restriction.
If you appreciate the diversity of an all-ages community and place more value on amenities and lifestyle, here are four San Antonio communities that don’t impose age restrictions on residents.
