Sun City Summerlin was opened by Del Webb in 1988 and completed in 1998. It is part of the larger Summerlin master-planned community, which features thriving shopping centers, restaurants, casinos, and spas. Summerlin also includes over 150 miles of walking trails and 100 neighborhood parks.


Exclusive amenities within Sun City Summerlin are spread across four impressive clubhouses. The Mountain Shadows Clubhouse features an exercise room and indoor spa, table tennis, an outdoor lap pool, tennis courts, a shuffleboard board, and a miniature golf course. This clubhouse also includes two 18-hole championship golf courses, Palm Valley and Highland Falls, as well as the 18-hole Eagle Crest Executive Course.

Del Webb developed Sun City Summerlin in three phases, with each phase including a new mix of attached duplex and single-family designs. Home designs typically became a bit larger in each phase. Attached duplexes throughout the community range from 1,003 to over 1,700 square feet. Some earlier homes only had one bathroom and a one-and-a-half-car garage, but most attached homes were built with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a two- or two-and-a-half-car garage.

Single-family homes also had a tendency to become larger in later development phases. Early models included floor plans from 1,086 to 2,491 square feet, typically with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a two-and-a-half-car garage. By the end of development, the largest single-family home designs were over 2,800 square feet. They featured up to three bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms, and a three-car garage.

Today, homeowners can choose from available attached duplex or single-family homes on a resale basis. Many homes were originally built with desirable options, such as fireplaces and bay windows. Most designs also included spacious master bedroom suites with large walk-in closets and patios for outdoor living. Resale homes may also include upgrades and enhancements by the original owners.
