At 55places.com, we always take a look at monthly sales to figure out which communities sell the best at any given point throughout the year. With summer in full swing, it’s time to see which active adult communities sold the best in June.
We evaluated sales made through 55places.com between June 1 and June 30, 2019, in order to determine the 10 best-selling active adult communities of the month. Please note that this number is drawn from sales made through the website and does not represent overall sales in any given community.
For those who have been following along throughout the year, this month’s ranking features some new neighborhoods that recently gained popularity. The list still includes a few favorites from Florida, but there are plenty of other states represented, too, including some Mid-Atlantic retirement hot spots.
1. Sun City Hilton Head - Bluffton, SC
The best-selling active adult community of June 2019 is Sun City Hilton Head in Bluffton, South Carolina. This 50+ community certainly rose through the ranks, as it did not even appear on last month’s list.
As a Del Webb community, the abundance of high-quality amenities attracts retirees who dream of a Coastal South Carolina retirement. The amenities feature a 45-acre town center and amenity complex, three 18-hole golf courses, and a 17,000 square-foot social hall.
With a full social calendar of activities, neighbors have plenty of opportunities to pursue their hobbies. For those who want to explore the surrounding area, Hilton Head Island is less than 25 minutes away.
2. Sun City Texas - Georgetown, TX
As the largest 55+ community in Texas, Sun City Texas in Georgetown allows residents to enjoy some of the best that The Lone Star State offers, including pleasant weather, an affordable cost of living, and nearby Austin.
Builder Del Webb offers a variety of new and resale single-family and attached homes for sale. The dozens of floor plans range from 940 to 3,150 square feet, allowing potential homebuyers to find the residence that best suits their lifestyle.
Desirable amenities in the community include an 86,000 square-foot amenity complex, a state-of-the-art fitness center with an indoor walking track, and nine miles of walking and biking trails.
3. Solivita - Kissimmee, FL
With plans for 5,900 homes across 4,300 acres, Solivita in Kissimmee continues to top the charts for active adults who want to retire in an expansive master-planned 55+ community. Many residents use golf carts to travel between their residences and the more than 150,000 square feet of amenities.
Luxury amenities at Solivita feature the 32,000 square-foot Riviera Spa & Fitness Center. There are several additional neighborhood centers as well as a ballroom and art center.
The variety of clubs and activities means that neighbors can gather freely to enjoy their hobbies. Some of the groups include green thumbs, singles club, dog training, big money bingo, and more.
4. Kings Point - Sun City Center, FL
With golf cart-legal streets, tram service, and an event bus, residents have plenty of ways to get around Kings Point in Sun City Center, Florida. Completed in 2015, this gated 55+ community consists of 5,277 single-family and attached homes.
Many of the floor plans range from about 800 to 3,083 square feet with two to four bedrooms, two or three bathrooms, and either carports or attached garages. Most of the homes consist of attached villas in duplex configurations. Some residences have golf course or water feature views.
In addition to expansive amenities, the community includes many daily conveniences, like grocery stores, pharmacies, banks, restaurants, and places of worship.
5. Heritage Shores - Bridgeville, DE
The convenient location allows residents to access Lewes Beach within 45 minutes, Rehoboth Beach within an hour, and the cities of Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and Philadelphia within two hours. For longer trips, the Salisbury Regional Airport is less than 45 minutes away.
Within the community, amenities include a 28,000 square-foot clubhouse, fitness and aquatic center, and an Arthur Hills-designed 18-hole golf course. Residents also enjoy two restaurants, a snack bar, and a wine bar.
6. Colonial Heritage - Williamsburg, VA
As a gated 55+ golf course community, Colonial Heritage in Williamsburg provides a luxury lifestyle for its residents. For a country club-style feel, many of the top-notch amenities center around the 25,000 square-foot Heritage Clubhouse.
The clubhouse features a grand ballroom, dining room, restaurant, woodworking shop, and crafts studios. The well-appointed athletic club includes a state-of-the-art fitness center with locker rooms, aerobics studios, and indoor and outdoor pools.
Many of the community’s positive reviews mention the tranquil surroundings and elegant clubhouse. One resident reflected, “The community is laid out beautifully with some small rolling hills and nice wooded areas, too. The activities at the clubhouse are very nice.”
7. On Top of the World - Ocala, FL
While On Top of the World doesn’t top this month’s list, it remains one of the best-selling communities in Florida. This gated 55+ community provides almost everything retirees seek from active adult communities.
In addition to recreation centers, the amenities include athletic courts, swimming pools, and three golf courses. At the Circle Square Commons, residents have a town square, continuing education center, spa, cultural center, deli, and ice cream shop.
The attached villas range from about 1,092 to 1,856 square feet, while the single-family homes range from approximately 1,204 to 3,039 square feet. The dozens of floor plans can suit almost any budget.
8. Holiday City at Berkeley - Toms River, NJ
For active adults who want to live in desirable Ocean County, Holiday City at Berkeley is one of the best options available. This 55+ community consists of 10,636 single-family homes that offer a low-maintenance lifestyle.
Floor plans range from 757 to 1,852 square feet with one to three bedrooms, one or two bathrooms, and one- or two-car garages. The homeowners’ association takes care of lawn care, snow removal, landscaping, common area maintenance, and private bus service.
Six clubhouses throughout the community offer plenty of amenities and space for gatherings. Some of the social clubs and activities include singles club, art workshops, camera club, line dancing, and bowling club.
9. Del Webb at Cane Bay - Summerville, SC
Built from 2007 to 2017, Del Webb at Cane Bay is a newer 55+ community near Charleston, South Carolina. The recently built single-family homes range from about 1,109 to 2,637 square feet with luxury features such as gourmet kitchens, sunrooms, screened-in porches, and master suites.
The 20,000-square-foot Resort Clubhouse offers amenities such as a state-of-the-art fitness center, indoor and outdoor pools, and a ballroom. Neighbors gather at the clubhouse to enjoy a wide range of clubs and events.
Some of the activities include wine club, Texas Hold ‘Em tournaments, photography group, and book worms. Community events include happy hours, dinner groups, trivia nights, fashion shows, game nights, and community discussions.
10. Arlington Ridge - Leesburg, FL
Built around a town square concept, Arlington Ridge in Leesburg weaves scenic walkways, water features, and tropical landscaping throughout the gated 55+ community. Many residents enjoy driving golf carts to access the amenities in style.
The Village Green clubhouse borders the 18-hole championship golf course with its own practice facilities and pro shop. Desirable outdoor amenities include a resort-style pool, lap pool, athletic courts, and walking trails.
Additional amenities within the clubhouse include a restaurant, cinema, social hall, state-of-the-art fitness center, and billiards hall. There is also a library, art studio, craft room, computer room, and catering kitchen to enjoy.
