55places.com took a look at every sale made through our website between September 1 and September 30, 2018 to determine our ten best-selling active adult communities of the month. If you’ve been keeping up with our previous monthly best-selling posts, you’ll recognize a few names that continually make the top ten mixed with a few newcomers. Please note that this number is drawn from sales made through our website and does not represent overall sales in any given community. To learn more about our criteria breakdown and methodology, click here.

1. Latitude Margaritaville – Daytona Beach, FL

Mid $200s – Mid $300s

The most popular active adult community of 2018 was also the most popular in September with buyers. In the last two years, the Latitude Margaritaville brand has become the biggest in the world of 55+ living and now that the initial round of residents have moved in it’s starting to take real shape. Minto recently released a new round of homesites and is currently working on developing amenities such as the town square and Barkaritaville pet spa.

2. On Top of the World – Ocala, FL

Below $100k – Mid $400s

Last month’s top-selling community stays close to the top of the charts once more. In fact, No. 2 is a pretty familiar spot for OTOW. It was No. 2 on our list of the 55 Best 55+ Communities of 2018 and our list of most popular active adult communities. Given everything that Ocala has to offer, it’s no surprise buyers keep showing up. And given all the amenities and home options in the community, it’s no surprise they decide to stick around.

3. Sun City Texas – Georgetown, TX

Low $200s – Low $1Ms

Sun City Texas was the No. 3 bestseller back in June and now they’re back in that spot just a few months later. Located just outside Austin, this community contains 9,900 homes, 86,000 square feet of indoor amenities and three 18-hole golf courses. Those are the kinds of numbers that add up for buyers and keep new ones deciding to call it home.

4. Sun City Grand – Surprise, AZ

Mid $100s – High $700s

Being ranked fourth is a pretty common thing for Sun City Grand. This Arizona community was also the fourth-best-selling community overall back in July. It was also No. 4 on our list of 55 Best 55+ Communities of 2018. The multiple amenity centers, various outdoor resort-style pools, and four championship golf courses probably have a lot to do with it.

5. Solivita – Kissimmee, FL

Mid $100s – Low $400s

Solivita returns to the list after taking a month off. Construction might have begun here in 2000, but new homes are still being added all the time, hence all the new neighbors who keep filing in. Good thing there are 150,000 square feet of amenities, the 32,000 square-foot Riviera Spa and Fitness Center, 19,000 square-foot Palms Amenity Complex, and two 18-hole golf courses in this golf cart-friendly community.

6. Oak Run – Ocala, FL

Below $100k – Mid $300s

Oak Run makes its first run appearance on the list since we started tracking monthly sales, but that doesn’t mean the interest hasn’t been there. This community routinely shows up on our best-of lists and attracts buyers based on its reasonably priced resale homes and over 100 clubs and interest groups. It also puts you in the middle of all the fun to be had in Ocala.

7. Rossmoor – Walnut Creek, CA

Mid $200s – Low $800s

Rossmoor makes an appearance on September’s list thanks to world-class amenities, a wide selection of homes, and a huge selection of activities to enjoy, from concerts to classes to dances. Developed in 1963, this gated active adult community consists of 6,678 homes located within distinct neighborhoods, an appealing proposition for those who want a wide array of options but still look for that tight-knit community feel.

8. Sun City Anthem – Henderson, NV

Low $200s – Low $1Ms

We recently named the Vegas Area one of the best places to retire in 2018 and communities like Sun City Anthem are a big part of why. Perched in the foothills of the Black Mountains, this 7,144-home community overlooks The Strip while offering cooler temperatures and cleaner air than the surrounding region. The three clubhouses, two 18-hole golf courses, and over 50 clubs and interest groups don’t hurt the appeal either.

9. Del Webb Ponte Vedra – Ponte Vedra, FL

High $200s – High $500s

20 miles south of Jacksonville, Del Webb Ponte Vedra keeps finding its way back onto this list every other month or so. Along with the great location, we think the impressive array of amenities, activities, and impressive residences are what keeps buyers coming back. Residents here also get to use all of the communal amenities in the Nocatee master-planned community.

10. Sun City Summerlin – Las Vegas, NV

Mid $200s – Low $1Ms

With 7,779 homes, Sun City Summerlin is the largest active adult community in Nevada. Size alone would be a good reason for it to make this list but when you factor in the many amenities inside (four clubhouses, three golf courses, three restaurants) you realize there are even more reasons for buyers to like what they see. Plus, the fact that Summerlin is comprised of nearly 20 separate residential villages means they’re about to get a whole lot of new neighbors to meet.
