An aerial view of Ellicott City, Maryland in the fall

Ellicott City in Maryland is a picturesque city for retirement, and these communities offer affordable homes.

Ellicott City in Howard County is home to seven active adult communities. They're small to mid-sized with condos, attached, and single-family homes. This variability means that home prices also range from the mid $200s to the mid $500s.

Howard County, located between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, is one of the most desirable counties in the area. With an easy commute to both cities, the area offers tranquility and picturesque greenspace. Home prices reflect this desirability and remain some of the highest in the Baltimore area. In June 2019, the Baltimore Business Journal reported that the average home price in Howard County remained at almost $450,000. Because this average is so high, "low-priced" has a slightly different meaning in this area.

Here are the four best lowest-priced communities in Ellicott City, all offering homes under $300k.

1. Gatherings at Jefferson Place

Mid $200s - Low $300s

Gatherings at Jefferson Place is a 55+ condo community located near the intersection of Route 29 and MD 100. The five buildings consist of just 74 units, which include four models ranging from 1,439 to 1,963 square feet with two bedrooms and two baths.
