Every month, we gather sales data from 55places.com to determine which communities sell the best at any given point throughout the year. So, which 55+ communities did active adult homebuyers choose in July?

We analyzed sales made through 55places.com between July 1 and July 31 of this year to determine the 10 best-selling active adult communities of the month. Please note that this number is drawn from sales made through the website and does not represent overall sales in any given community.

This month’s rankings show that many homebuyers have made their dreams of a Florida or Arizona retirement a reality. But, there are also some new states represented in the list, including Nevada and Illinois. Read on to discover the best-selling 55+ communities of July. 

1. On Top of the World - Ocala, FL

Below $100k - Low $400s

The best-selling 55+ community of July is On Top of the World in Ocala, Florida. This gated community rose from #7 last month to #1 this month, but no matter where it ranks on the list, this community is often on active adults’ minds. It’s one of our 55 Best 55+ Communities of 2019.

With plans for 10,000 single-family and attached homes, this age-restricted community draws retirees who want to live in an expansive development. With so many like-minded neighbors around, residents can always participate in activities, clubs, and classes.

The abundant amenities also strive to suit almost every interest. With state-of-the-art fitness centers, indoor and outdoor pools, and a continuing education center, residents can enjoy some of the most desirable amenities of any active adult community—all in the heart of Central Florida.

2. Sun City Anthem - Henderson, NV

The Las Vegas area has plenty to offer retirees, including world-class entertainment, dining, and outdoor recreation. But for those seeking a retirement oasis within close proximity of the Entertainment Capital of the World, Sun City Anthem is the area’s best-selling 55+ community. 

Located in Henderson, this Del Webb 55+ community boasts a scenic location in the foothills of the Black Mountains at an elevation of 800 feet above the mountain floor. Residents enjoy cleaner air, cooler temperatures, and quieter surroundings, as well as breathtaking views of the Las Vegas strip. 

This luxury community boasts over 130,000 square feet of resort-style amenities that center around three modern clubhouses. Some of the most sought-after amenities include an indoor walking track, three golf courses, and a theater. 

3. Solivita - Kissimmee, FL

Mid $100s - Low $400s 

Solivita in Kissimmee, Florida is currently one of the most popular golf cart-friendly 55+ communities in the country. Not only can residents play two 18-hole golf courses right within their community, but they can also zip around to all of the luxury amenities.

The Riviera Spa and Fitness Center offers 32,000 square feet with exercise studios, an indoor walking track, and indoor and outdoor pools. The 19,000-square-foot Palms Amenity Complex boasts a business center and plenty of multipurpose gathering space.

4. Province - Maricopa, AZ

By the numbers, Province in Maricopa, Arizona is a gated 55+ community with plans for 2,217 single-family and attached homes. Within this scenic community, the landscape features 30 acres of parks and 50 acres of waterways.

Residents of this Phoenix area community enjoy amenities such as a 32,000-square-foot clubhouse with a cafe, aerobics studio, ballroom, and rooms for cards, sewing, ceramics, and arts and crafts. Residents often gather here for classes, clubs, and group meetings.

The single-family and attached homes provide an opportunity to retire affordably near Phoenix. As the most affordable residences, the attached villas range from 1,172 to 1,725 square feet. The more spacious single-family homes range from 1,214 to 2,830 square feet. 

5. Latitude Margaritaville Hilton Head - Hardeeville, SC

Mid $200s - Mid $300s

Since the highly anticipated Latitude Margaritaville Hilton Head broke ground in 2018, active adults have been keeping tabs on progress at this 55+ community for plenty of reasons. This Jimmy Buffett-inspired community will bring a laid-back lifestyle to Coastal South Carolina, just 30 minutes from Hilton Head Island.

With tropical-themed home model collections, residents can choose from several spacious and open floor plans. The homes will range from 1,503 to 2,564 square feet with up to three bedrooms plus a den, three-and-a-half bathrooms, and an attached three-car garage.

The luxury amenities plan to include a central town center with restaurants, retail, and a bandshell for live entertainment and events. Residents will also enjoy a resort-style pool with a bar, a sandy beach area, and a pet spa and dog park.

6. Latitude Margaritaville - Daytona Beach, FL

Mid $200s - Mid $400s

At the original Latitude Margaritaville community in Daytona Beach, Florida, residents have already moved in and they love it. Retirees looking for something that’s not your typical 55 + community have plenty to explore at Latitude Margaritaville. 

This age-restricted community from builder Minto offers the same home model collections: the Caribbean Collection, the Beach Collection, and the Island Collection. Many of the floor plans feature spacious lanais for indoor-outdoor living, master suites with en-suite bathrooms and walk-in closets, and breakfast nooks. 

The resort-style amenities center around a town square with the Fins Up! fitness center, Latitude Bar & Chill Restaurant, Last Mango Theater, and Barkaritaville Pet Spa. And due to the community’s covetable location in Daytona Beach, residents also have access to a private beachfront club right on the Atlantic Ocean, with daily shuttle service transportation.

7. Carillon - Plainfield, IL

Active adults who want to retire in the Midwest have plenty of options, but one of the best-selling choices is Carillon in Plainfield, Illinois. Even as the first age-restricted community in the Chicago area, the popularity has remained over the years for Illinois retirees. 

Located less than one hour southwest of downtown Chicago, residents enjoy convenient access to the area’s best entertainment, restaurants, and recreation options. The surrounding area also boasts plenty of parks ideal for hiking, biking, walking, birding, and fishing, such as Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve, Lake Renwick Preserve, and the Saganashkee Slough Woods.

The luxury amenities at Carillon center around the 32,000-square-foot clubhouse with a grand ballroom, woodworking shop, indoor and outdoor pools, and more. The Links at Carillon, a public golf course that winds through the community, offers 27 holes of golf, plus a pro shop and a restaurant. 

8. Sun City Huntley - Huntley, IL

The luxury amenities feature the 94,000-square-foot Prairie Lodge with a restaurant, a fitness center, indoor and outdoor pools, an indoor walking track, a ballroom, and more.

The 20,000-square-foot Meadow View Lodge and the 4,800-square-foot Millgrove Woodworking Shop offer additional opportunities for recreation as well as activities and social clubs. The outdoor amenities include an 18-hole golf course, a 19-acre fishing lake, and walking and biking trails.

9. Mission Royale - Casa Grande, AZ

Located between Phoenix and Tucson in Casa Grande, Arizona, Mission Royale is a 55+ community with plans for 1,292 single-family homes. One of the most enticing features of this community, the Mission Royale Golf Club, boasts a scenic 18-hole course that winds through the development.

Residents also enjoy a private clubhouse with 15,000 square feet of amenities such as a restaurant, a ballroom, and a state-of-the-art fitness center. The outdoor amenities include two swimming pools, tennis and pickleball courts, and walking and biking trails.

The available homes for sale allow active adults to retire affordably in an amenity-rich setting. The floor plans range from 1,071 to 2,439 square feet with two to four bedrooms, two or two-and-a-half bathrooms, and attached two- to three-car garages.

10. Carolina Arbors - Durham, NC

One of the most popular areas for a North Carolina retirement is the Research Triangle Area, which consists of Durham, Raleigh, and Chapel Hill. There, active adults can also find Carolina Arbors, a Del Webb 55+ community that puts retirees near the area’s best universities, medical centers, and things to do. 

Thanks to a homeowners’ association that takes care of landscaping and lawn care, residents can enjoy a low-maintenance lifestyle. This allows them to have more free time to join social clubs and participate in activities and classes. Just some of the community events include regular nights for trivia, games, and movies.
