Every month at 55places.com, we review monthly sales to determine which communities sell the best at any given point throughout the year. Now that we’ve passed Labor Day, it’s time to discover the best-selling active adult communities of August.

After reviewing sales made through 55places.com between August 1 and August 31, 2019, we determined which active adult communities were best-sellers last month. Please note that this number is drawn from sales made through the website and doesn’t represent overall sales in any given community.

For those who regularly check the best-selling communities, this month’s ranking highlights some active adult communities that recently gained popularity over the summer. While some familiar Florida retirement destinations still made the list, there are also two communities in Nevada and one in the Mid-Atlantic.

Check out the ranking below for the best-selling communities of August.

1. Sun City Anthem – Henderson, NV

Low $200s – Low $1Ms

From #2 best-selling in July to #1 best-selling in August, Sun City Anthem near Las Vegas continues to attract active adults who seek a resort-style retirement. With desirable Del Webb floor plans, world-class amenities, and a rich variety of social activities, this 55+ community aims to provide a well-rounded and exciting lifestyle.

The luxury amenities center around the 77,000-square-foot Anthem Center Clubhouse, which features a state-of-the-art fitness center, an indoor pool, an indoor walking track, and dozens of multipurpose rooms, art studios, and game rooms for clubs and activities. Residents also gather at the 31,000-square-foot Independence Center, 22,000-square-foot Liberty Center, and the 23,000-square-foot Revere Golf Club.

2. Solivita – Kissimmee, FL

Mid $100s – Low $400s

The Kissimmee area of Central Florida boasts a rich natural landscape ideal for living an active lifestyle that includes visiting area’s parks and preserves, boating and fishing, and playing golf. For many active adults who want to live in this retirement oasis, Solivita offers everything they’re looking for in a 55+ community.

As a golf cart-friendly community, residents can travel the 4,300-acre community in style and comfort. This also ensures that residents can easily access the abundant amenities throughout the gated 55+ community.

The 19,000-square-foot Palms Amenity Complex and 32,000-square-foot Riviera Spa & Fitness Center include many of the most desirable amenities, such as state-of-the-art fitness centers, aerobics studios, an indoor walking track, and indoor and outdoor pools and spas.

3. Province – Maricopa, AZ

High $100s – High $500s

Located about 35 miles south of Downtown Phoenix, Province provides close proximity to a major metropolitan area while maintaining a spacious and scenic community. This gated 55+ community of 2,217 single-family and attached homes reserves 30 percent of its land for parks and greenspaces, plus 50 acres of lakes and scenic waterways.

The affordable new and resale homes come in over 30 floor plans, ensuring that residents can find a home that suits their needs and preferences. The most affordable homes, the attached villas, range from 1,172 to 1,725 square feet and come with exterior home maintenance. The more spacious homes can reach 2,830 square feet.

4. On Top of the World – Ocala, FL

Below $100K – Low $400s

With plans for 10,000 single-family and attached homes, On Top of the World in Ocala is an expansive community of like-minded active adults. This gated 55+ community has maintained popularity with retirees since it first opened in 1981.

Residents enjoy one of the most extensive lineups of social activities, clubs, and events of any active adult community. Regular community events include happy hours, rummage sales, game tournaments, live entertainment, coffee socials, talent shows, farmers markets, and craft fairs.

5. Lansdowne Woods of Virginia – Lansdowne, VA

Low $200s – Low $500s

With scenic views of the Potomac River and the Blue Ridge Mountains, Lansdowne Woods of Virginia is a gated 55+ condominium community that consists of 1,200 condominium homes across seven buildings. Thanks to condo homes that offer ultimate low-maintenance living, residents enjoy a lock-and-leave lifestyle that allows them to have more leisure time.

The luxury amenities include a 50,000-square-foot clubhouse, a 300-seat ballroom, and an indoor pool. But when residents want to explore the surrounding area, they’re only 25 miles from the world-class museums and entertainment of Washington, D.C. The nearby area features golf courses, retail opportunities, and 20 wineries to try.

6. The Colony – Murrieta, CA

Low $300s – High $400s

Located in Southern California within an hour of the desert, lake, mountain, and coastal landscapes, The Colony is a gated 55+ golf course community with 1,501 single-family homes. The abundant outdoor recreation opportunities include areas such as Cleveland National Forest, Lake Elsinore, San Bernadino National Forest, and San Clemente.

This active adult community ideal for an Inland Empire retirement has affordable resale homes for sale. Many of the single-family homes range from about 947 to 2,100 square feet, and the original builders offered over 60 floor plans.

7. Sun City Festival – Buckeye, AZ

Low $200s – High $500s

For active adults who like the lifestyle pioneered by the original Sun City community but prefer a newer development, Sun City Festival in Buckeye offers those features and more. This Del Webb 45+ age-restricted community, which began construction in 2006, plans to include 7,200 single-family homes upon completion.

The resort-style amenities at Sun City Festival include a 31,000-square-foot clubhouse with a state-of-the-art fitness center, game and activity rooms, and an ASU Lifelong Learning Academy. The outdoor amenities feature a resort-style pool and spa, an amphitheater, a softball stadium, and an 18-hole golf course.

8. Latitude Margaritaville – Daytona Beach, FL

Mid $200s – Low $500s

The original Latitude Margaritaville 55+ community in coastal Daytona Beach has enticed active adults from across the country who desire an ultimate island-inspired lifestyle. In addition to the warm, sunny climate and close proximity to the Atlantic Coast, residents enjoy an impressive array of resort-style amenities.

The tropical-inspired amenities feature a town center with a state-of-the-art fitness center, a business center, a restaurant, a dog spa, and an outdoor amphitheater for live concerts and community events. Two sought-after features are the luxury resort-style swimming pool and the private beachfront club accessible via community shuttle service.

This gated 55+ community plans to include 3,092 single-family and attached homes upon completion. Potential homebuyers can find both new and resale homes for sale, with plenty of customization and personalization options.

9. Sun City Texas – Georgetown, TX

High $100s – Low $1Ms

With retirement-friendly taxes, high-quality healthcare, and almost endless recreation opportunities, active adults have plenty of reasons to retire in Texas. And in August, most retirees chose Sun City Texas, making it the best-selling of the more than 60 active adult communities in The Lone Star State.

This sprawling 55+ community spans 5,300 acres with plans for 9,900 single-family and attached homes. The landscape features outdoor amenities such as four resort-style pools, three 18-hole championship golf courses, nine miles of walking and biking trails, nearly three dozen athletic courts, a dog park, and a fishing lake.

10. Sun City Summerlin – Las Vegas, NV

Mid $200s – Low $1Ms 

Built from 1989 to 1999, Sun City Summerlin brought the sought-after Del Webb lifestyle to Las Vegas retirees. This luxury 55+ community boasts amenities such as four clubhouses, three golf courses, three restaurants, and a 312-seat theater.

The vast array of amenities allows for an expansive offering of activities, clubs, and classes. Some of the popular groups include silver foxes, folk dancing, RV club, krafty kritters, and boomer connection. Regular community events include coffee with the board, socials, game tournaments, wine hours, and Oktoberfest.
