We calculated which active adult communities sold the best between December 1 and December 31, 2019, through sales made at 55places.com. Please note that because this ranking is drawn from sales made through the website, it doesn’t represent overall sales in any given community.
Since the list of best-selling communities of December 2019 includes four in Florida and two in Arizona, it shows that many active adults have decided to make their dreams of a Florida or Arizona retirement a reality. But with plenty of active adult communities across the country, the list also includes 55+ communities in Texas, New Jersey, South Carolina, and California. Keep reading below to discover which communities represent the best-selling active adult communities of December 2019.
Mid $200s - High $500s
The best-selling active adult community of December is Sun City Festival, a Del Webb 45+ community perfect for active adults seeking an Arizona retirement. Located in the northwest valley of Phoenix, this age-restricted community of 7,200 single-family homes puts residents within close proximity to Surprise and the White Tank Mountains.
The amenity-rich lifestyle at Sun City Festival features the 31,000-square-foot Sage Recreation Center, which includes a ballroom, advanced fitness center, ASU Lifelong Learning Academy, and an outdoor resort-style pool. Residents also gather at the clubhouse for social activities, clubs, and classes, such as lady putters, RV club, glass arts, paper crafts, hiking club, and social dance club.

With plans for 9,900 single-family and attached homes, Sun City Texas in Georgetown is both the largest 55+ community in Texas and one of the best-selling communities of December. This Del Webb 55+ community boasts a variety of sought-after floor plans, world-class amenities, and lifestyle activities, all within reach of the best that a Texas Hill Country retirement has to offer.
The amenities at Sun City Texas center around an 86,000-square-foot Village Center Amenity Complex, which offers a state-of-the-art fitness center, indoor walking track, two indoor pools, a ballroom, a restaurant, and a cafe. A second amenity center also features a fitness center, indoor track, and an indoor pool as well as plenty of multipurpose gathering spaces.
Across the expansive 5,300-acre community, the outdoor amenities include three 18-hole golf courses, four resort-style pools, a fishing lake, a softball field, an outdoor amphitheater, and nine miles of walking and biking trails. Residents can enjoy 12 tennis courts, six pickleball courts, six bocce ball courts, 10 horseshoe pits, and twp shuffleboard courts.
3. Solivita - Kissimmee, FL

As one of the best-selling active adult communities in Florida, the lifestyle and amenities at Solivita continue to make this gated 55+ community a top Central Florida retirement destination. Located in the Orlando-Kissimmee area, residents can easily access some of the top attractions and entertainment options in the country, including Universal Studios, Walt Disney World, and Kennedy Space Center.

Although active adult communities in New Jersey don’t often make the best-selling list, Leisure Village East managed to surpass many other popular communities as one of the top communities in December. With over 270 active adult communities in the Garden State, Leisure Village East recently sold the best.
With 1,412 attached homes, this gated 55+ community provides an affordable low-maintenance lifestyle surrounded by amenities and lifestyle activities. The desirable Southern New Jersey location in Ocean County also allows residents to easily access daily conveniences, local attractions, and the shore.
The attached homes come in five home models that range from 630 to 1,690 square feet with one or two bedrooms, one or two bathrooms, and one-car garages. Ideal for downsizing, many of the homes provide open concept living, master suites with en-suite bathrooms, and screened-in porches.

With amenities such as a Town Square, Fins Up! Fitness Center, Last Mango Theater, and Latitude Bar & Chill Restaurant, the recreation opportunities take inspiration from the life and music of Jimmy Buffett. In addition to the 45-acre Town Center and Amenity Complex, many of the recreation activities take place at the 17,000-square-foot Pinckney Social Hall and 540-seat Magnolia Hall Performing Arts Center.

This 40+ active adult community by Robson Communities plans to include 4,000 single-family and attached homes upon completion, with both new and resale homes for sale.
The ranch-style attached homes range from 1,286 to 1,508 square feet, while the single-family homes range from 1,376 to 2,686 square feet. 10. On Top of the World - Ocala, FL

Rounding out this month’s list, On Top of the World maintains its reputation as one of the most popular and best-selling active adult communities across the country. Found in the Ocala area in the heart of Central Florida, this gated 55+ community plans to include 10,000 single-family and attached homes upon completion.
As a golf cart-accessible community, many residents enjoy using their carts to explore the development’s many amenities, which include five clubhouses and recreation centers, a 1,500-seat ballroom, three golf courses, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and athletic courts.
One of the most popular amenities is the Circle Square Commons. Considered as the social and entertainment hub of the development, it includes a town square, continuing education center, cultural center, fitness center and spa, coffee shop, deli, and ice cream shop.
