We kept track of the active adult communities added to 55places.com in December and divided it into two sections. The ‘New Construction’ section includes brand new developments and communities with new and resale homes for sale, while the ‘Resale’ section denotes well-established communities with resale homes.
At the end of 2019, the list mainly features new construction communities, but there are three resale communities to explore. These active adult communities span seven states: Arizona, California, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee. At the active lifestyle community The Dells, active adults can find both new and resale homes for sale. With plans for 300 single-family homes upon completion, the neighborhood will offer an array of amenities, including a modern clubhouse with views of the Granite Dells mountains. The community’s walking trails even extend into the nearby landscape.

Located in Surprise, Arizona and just 30 minutes from Phoenix, Sterling Grove will soon offer another 55+ option for those who want to retire in Arizona. Upon completion, this age-restricted neighborhood will add 90 single-family homes to a master-planned community. The amenities will feature an 18-hole championship golf course, three pools, and a restaurant.

The Courtyards at Eastfield Farm is a new 55+ community coming soon to Central North Carolina. This tight-knit community will consist of 70 single-family homes across three customizable floor plans that range from 1,518 to 2,832 square feet. Residents will have access to amenities like a clubhouse with a fitness center and an outdoor pool.

Currently under construction by builder D. R. Horton, the active lifestyle community The Landing at Rocklyn will consist of 54 single-family homes near the popular Winston-Salem area of Central North Carolina. In addition to outdoor amenities like a pool, patio, and pickleball courts, residents will be able to enjoy the surrounding area, which offers plenty of festivals, events, historical attractions, and shopping opportunities.

Active adults looking for a maintenance-free, lock-and-leave lifestyle in Pennsylvania should take a closer look at Hearthstone at West Bristol near Philadelphia. Upon completion, this 55+ condominium community will include 132 condo homes with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Offering approximately 1,200 square feet, these homes feature open floor plans, covered balconies, and owner’s suites with en-suite bathrooms and walk-in closets.

With plans for just 16 single-family homes, Amelia Walk will provide a tight-knit 55+ community with spacious floor plans and a low-maintenance lifestyle. The homeowners’ association will take care of lawn maintenance, ensuring that the cottage-inspired homes will be well-maintained. Teramachi Homes is a 55+ condominium community located in the heart of Los Angeles less than 30 minutes from the international airport and the Pacific coastline. Ideal for downsizing, the condos range from about 970 to 1,060 square feet and provide access to amenities like a state-of-the-art fitness center, a resort-style outdoor pool, and gardening plots.
