Port St. Lucie is a growing town on Florida's Atlantic Coast with plenty of popular 55+ communities.

The population in Port St. Lucie has grown by nearly 20 percent in the last eight years. Active adults are realizing that it’s a desirable place to live, whether the goal is to settle into a Florida retirement community or find a part-time home for the winter.

Located on the Treasure Coast of Florida, residents have been moving in to enjoy the ample golf, easy beach proximity, and affordable real estate close to the Atlantic coast.

Some of the best Port St. Lucie homes for sale are in 55+ communities, and we’re taking a look at a few of the newest and fastest growing neighborhoods.

Cresswind at PGA Village Verano

Mid $200s - High $300s

New single-family homes are selling fast at Cresswind at PGA Village Verano. This 55+ community was recently introduced by Kolter Homes as the latest installment at the PGA Village Verano master-planned community.

With three championship golf courses and a 35-acre practice and instructional facility, it’s the place to be for golfers who want to play on a regular basis. Additional amenities include Club Talavera, a 27,000 square-foot clubhouse that’s home to a ballroom, lounge, multipurpose room, and demonstration kitchens.

Cresswind at PGA Village Verano also has a fitness facility with pools, massage rooms, and an aerobics and dance studio. There’s a planned pickleball complex as well, which is scheduled to be the largest in south Florida.

Four new-construction floor plans are available to buyers looking for lots of space and a low level of maintenance. Properties are between 2,176 and 3,229 square feet and have between two and four bedrooms. All models have a den and an attached two-car garage. The community is close to Walmart and Publix grocery stores as well as fun spots like movie theaters and restaurants.

Vitalia at Tradition

Low $200s - Mid $400s

Another 55+ community within a master-planned community is Vitalia at Tradition, where a lakeside pavilion offers pretty views and a place for residents to gather.

There’s an event lawn, fire pits, and a heated outdoor pool with a sprawling deck and cabanas. The Captiva Club is the 24,000 square-foot clubhouse where residents can enjoy the state-of-the-art fitness center, ballroom, library, and business center. The community has a putting green, pickleball courts, tennis, and bocce ball.

The lifestyle is active, with clubs like water volleyball, photography, yoga, and bowling. Residents get together for dance night, movie night, and pool parties.

The 1,200 single-family homes are divided into 10 collections which feature floor plans and models of various sizes and layouts. Buyer can select a modest two-bedroom, two-bathroom home with 1,400 square feet in the Tuscany collection or a larger four-bedroom home with nearly 3,000 square feet and a huge outdoor patio in the Fall Mist series.

Tarpon Bay Yacht Club

Mid $100s - High $200s

Buyers looking for a small 55+ condo community in Port St. Lucie right on the water should check out Tarpon Bay Yacht Club, where there are 120 units in three-story buildings equipped with elevators.

Residents here embrace outdoor living, with a boat dock, fruit orchards, ponds and nature trails, and space for shuffleboard, tennis, and pickleball. The outdoor pool faces the water and inside the clubhouse there’s a community workshop, a library, and plenty of meeting rooms for club events and social activities.

Some condos have views of Kitching Cove, which leads to the St. Lucie River. The properties have two bedrooms and two bathrooms, with between 1,314 and 1,666 square feet. Tarpon Bay Yacht Club is close to many of the area’s best beaches and Savannas Preserve State Park where fishing, hiking, canoeing, and kayaking are popular.

Valencia Cay at Riverland

Mid $200s - High $400s

Another desirable 55+ community with new construction homes for sale in Port St. Lucie is Valencia Cay at Riverland, where residents can find large homes with between two and four bedrooms, outdoor living space, and first-floor master suites that include walk-in closets and spacious bathrooms. Dozen of floor plans in five collections give buyers plenty of options and lots of customized choices when it comes to function and design.

The Club at Valencia Cay is a 34,000 square-foot amenity center which includes a cafe, a social hall, and a catering kitchen. There’s also a fitness center and outdoors, residents will find a fire pit, a pool, and a spa. Riverland's Sports & Racquet Club includes tennis courts, pickleball courts, and bocce ball courts as well as a huge fitness center.

There’s a regular farmers market and ongoing classes in pottery, art, and cooking to keep neighbors engaged and active. The community is close to Interstate 95 for easy travel to the northern and southern parts of the state, and the beach is less than half an hour away.

Port St. Lucie Communities Without Age Restrictions

It’s not all 55+ communities on this part of Florida’s Treasure Coast. Buyers seeking a home for sale in Port St. Lucie where the generations mix and family members of all ages can live under the same room might want to consider some of the following active adult communities:

  • Visconti, an intimate community with only 76 single-family homes available in new and resale models. It’s a great place for walking, with several trails and bike paths throughout the community. Homes are two or three bedrooms in sizes ranging from 1,500 to 2,211 square feet.

  • Lake Forest is a well-located community close to I-95 and lots of conveniences such as grocery stores, retailers, and restaurants. There are pools, playgrounds, and community activities like holiday parties and happy hours. Resale single-family homes come in more than 10 models with between two and four bedrooms.

  • Magnolia Lakes has many great amenities including a sand volleyball court and a fitness center with a steam room. Single-family homes start in the high $100s and have 1,550 to over 3,000 square feet.
