    Jupiter is a small coastal city in Palm Beach County, Florida, just north of Miami. With sunny weather all year long and plenty of beaches to explore, it has become a desirable option for retirees. Aside from that, the city fosters a friendly atmosphere with plenty of annual festivals and parades. 

    Climate and Geography

    A coastal city of Florida, Jupiter is in the northernmost area of Palm Beach County. Its ideal location and tropical weather have made it an enticing option for retirees. Residents of Jupiter can expect over 200 sunny days a year and very short and mild winters, rarely experiencing snow at all. 

    Being so close to the coast, the city is known for its tropical trees and lush landscapes. The city is also home to plenty of beaches and public parks. 

    Recreation, Culture & Entertainment

    Residents of Jupiter have plenty of options to get out and enjoy the weather. These include Jupiter Beach Park, Sawfish Bay Park, Cypress Creek, North Jupiter Flatwoods, and more. Each of these parks and beaches come with its own outdoor activities such as hiking, catching a boat cruise, and even tours. 

    They can continue to explore the scenery by attending other popular landmarks such as Busch Wildlife Sanctuary and Jupiter Lighthouse and Museum. 

    There are also many events that take place throughout the year such as food and wine festivals, parades, and county fairs. Not to mention the breweries and wineries that can be found around the city.

    Cost of Living & Taxes

    The cost of living in Jupiter is higher than the state and national averages. This can be due to the median home cost, which is higher when compared both state and nationwide. Other costs, such as utilities, are less than the state and national averages, while groceries and transportation are higher. 

    Florida is known as one of the most tax-friendly states in the country, with a statewide sales tax of 6 percent. Jupiter does add a 1 percent sales tax onto this rate. There is no tax on retirement and Social Security income, and there are several tax breaks for residents 65 and older, specifically for homeowners.

    The city of Jupiter is home to two major medical centers. They are Jupiter Medical Center and Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, each of these rank as high performing in at least one condition by U.S News.
