Climate & Geography
South Bend is in northern Indiana, just south of the Michigan border. Summers are sunny and warm, winters can be freezing, and residents can expect relatively moderate temperatures all year round. There is also more snowfall in South Bend than the national average.
The city is built right along the south bend of the St. Joseph River, hence its name. South Bend is home to plain fields and built out suburbs surrounding its downtown area.

South Bend is known as the economic and cultural hub for northern Indiana, due to its large city atmosphere and variety of businesses and attractions. The city is home to the University of Notre Dame, one of its central landmarks. The university’s football stadium is famous nationwide and serves as a popular sports location for residents. There is also a baseball stadium and ice arena in the city.
Residents of South Bend are especially proud of their historical and cultural appeal which is showcased at their national history museums and heritage centers. Morris Performing Arts Center, a world-class theatre, is a popular venue where residents can see a concert or a show.
South Bend also hosts plenty of annual music festivals and parades such as South Bend International Festival, The World Pulse Festival, South by South Bend, and others.
Cost of Living & Taxes
The overall cost of living in South Bend is less than national and state averages. This is due to median housing cost which is significantly lower than the U.S median.
