Overview

Located in Central Kentucky, Wilmore is a small city in Jessamine County. Its low cost of living and proximity to popular Lexington have made it a popular destination for active adults. Besides this, residents enjoy numerous nearby parks, rivers, and nature preserves for plenty of outdoor recreation.

Climate & Geography

Residents of Wilmore experience a humid subtropical climate characterized by hot, humid summers and cold winters. The area received about 45 inches of rain and 13 inches of snow each year.

Wilmore is built mainly on gently rolling hills. The Kentucky River is southwest of the town, and the Jessamine Creek is toward the east. Centennial Park is located in the northwestern section of town.

Recreation, Culture & Entertainment 

Wilmore is home to plenty of outdoor activities, including nearby state and local parks where residents can stay active by hiking, camping, sightseeing, and more. The Jessamine Creek Gorge, Dupree Nature Preserve, and High Bridge Park are all close by.

Aside from this, Wilmore has historic appeal, which can be found in the town's six nationally registered historic locations. Wilmore also hosts two annual festivals, which are the Ichthus Music Festival and the Highbridge Film Festival. Residents are also in driving distance of events, entertainment, and shopping of Lexington.

The cost of living in Wilmore is below the national average but just slightly higher than the state average. Compared to the rest of the U.S., housing and health care costs are well below average.
