What can I say, very nice

5.0

I am a 12-year resident of Leisure Village and I thought I’d share why we feel The Original Leisure Village is the best kept secret in NJ. For me it was the resort like quality of Leisure Village. You can enjoy 51 miles of walkways. Live in a park like community with 457 acres of manicured lawns, thousands of trees and 7 lakes. In addition to the natural splendor, we have the incredible social aspect of living in our village. You witness this on our golf course, Bocce courts, shuffleboard courts in our pools and clubs. Leisure Village is a place where people are outgoing and want to enjoy life. On top of what I would consider an extremely good life style, all the hard work is done for us. Snow removal, lawn care, major repairs such as replacing our roofs, roads and sidewalks, plumbing, appliance repair and private bus service for local shopping are all handled as part of our monthly Association fee. Having lived our whole working life in Northern NJ, Bergen County to be exact. We were shocked that you can get all this for from under $100,000 to Mid $100,000 in NJ. Taxes are extremely low in comparison. In Bergen County, 12 years ago, we were paying $8,000 in taxes. Taxes here in the Original Leisure village for a 1,490 ft 2-bedroom 2 bath unit today taxes are $2,400.As for our Location. We are 10 minutes from Point Pleasant beaches, less than an hour drive from Atlantic City, Manhattan and Philadelphia. One mile up the road we have every store and restaurant imaginable. We have Shoprite, Stop and Shop, Home Depot, Lowes, Christmas Tree Shops, Best Buy, Bed Bath and Beyond. We have Ruby Tuesdays, Long Horn, Charlie Browns, TGIF’s Bonefish and Applebee’s. We have dozens of diners, pizza places and Chinese restaurants. And yes as some have indicated on this site, in a village with 2,433 units we do have people that feel they are not being served to their liking. You will have that in any retirement village where you have a board and management running things, but I choose to focus on the good and enjoy my retirement.

I love living there, close to shops and restaurants. I am enjoying my retirement, looking forward to trying biking and participating in all the activities in the future.

I live in LV, and I like it very much, great amenities & Staff. It is quite quiet as well.

I am a 13 year resident and the services have decreased significantly. In all this time, my exterior which needed painting when I moved in, has not been painted despite many, many requests. Also, they don't enforce the parking rules and it is hard to drive down our court because the others don't respect the parking rules. I also think the lawn services have deteriorated. I should not have to tell the staff how to do a good job and yet they are not performing with the attention and respect the jobs need. We residents are taken for granted. The staff only works on the public facing side of the grounds for new comers to see but the private side is neglected and I am not capable of caring for this side and it is their responsibility.

Beware of neighbors!!!!I financed a property here for my mother and it has been nothing but a headache with neighbors. I thought we picked a safe place given the security and rules on how many people can live in a unit/no kids permant residents but it is still madness.
Every week it is either the police or DYFS at one of two of her neighbors right next to her. One has a daughter with six kids living in the car and they stay there on and off, allowing the young kids/toddlers to walk around unsupervised outside...sometimes without clothes. My mother has to be constantly worried about the kids falling on her steps and some of the older kids beat up a visitor’s grandchild. My mother is nervous about my niece visit because of this. Other adult children also stay there on and off long periods, always people in and out.
There have been whiskey bottles outside her place that are not hers and trash. I get living in tight space can be tough with neighbors but if it was going to be this bad I could have moved her to Philly or Camden and saved money! The next door neighbors fight whenever the adult kids visit. My mom won’t call the police but I sure as will if I hear it next time I’m there. This is getting ridiculous, would have never moved her here if I knew it was trashy. I have to worry about people trying to do something to the property or rob her given how crazy it is and that is the last thing I need. Another neighbor she has is just as bad with police constantly getting called on them for fighting and the child (who shouldn’t even be living there) for harassing neighbors. I understand people have problems but this is not what I expected at all from a senior community, too much drama!

If I could give a negative rating I would. We've had nothing but problems with the association here. Asking them to fix anything is impossible. They don't even get back to you to acknowledge your request. But God forbid you are one day late on the maintenance fee (which is one of the highest in the area), you get threatening letters and are charged a ridiculous amount of interest. We tried for months to get someone to fix a mold problem in our bathroom, a problem that only started after they put a new roof on our building. It took us threatening to come in with our attorney to get someone out to finally fix the issue. Someone is making money off of the residents but I can't figure out who. As Elizabeth commented previously, the services have gone down hill significantly. There are a lot of empty units and I don't find it to be safe anymore. There's a lot of shady activity that goes on at night and no one does anything about it. The snow removal is absurd. It takes days to get plowed/shoveled out. And you would think with the amount of money we pay every month, things would be such much better. I would never recommend anyone move in here. You will get so much more for your money elsewhere.
