    Pataskala, a suburb of Columbus, is a small town located in Central Ohio. Retirees enjoy living in a tight-knit community with access to the amenities of a major city. Besides this, the area's local golf courses, small boutiques, and low cost of living make it popular for active adults.

    Climate and Geography

    Pataskala has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are hot and humid while winters are cold and snowy. Residents can expect 41 inches of rain, 23 inches of snow, and 172 sunny days per year. 

    Most of Central Ohio is flat and low-lying, but there are some hills and forests to the southeast. There are several small bodies of water in the city, including Muddy Fork and South Fork Licking River. 

    Recreation, Culture, & Entertainment 

    Golfers have plenty of courses to choose from in Pataskala, including Cumberland Trail Golf Club, Broadview Golf Course, and Willow Run Golf Course. There are also recreational fields and trails available at Thomas J. Evans Foundation Park. 

    Pataskala also offers a variety of local amenities, including the Mead Needham Museum for local history and The Sterling Theater for community theater. For local boutiques, eateries, and specialty shops, residents can head to Broad Street. 

    Columbus, with a variety of museums, high-end shops, and gourmet restaurants, is about 40 minutes away.

    Cost of Living & Taxes

    The overall cost of living in Pataskala is below the national average. This is primarily caused by low housing, health care, and transportation costs.

    Ohio does not tax Social Security benefits, but all other forms of retirement income are taxed. Retirees over 65 may qualify for a $250 credit on their income taxes. Property and sales taxes are just above average.

    The Columbus metro area ranks in the top 90 communities on Gallup's Well-Being Index. 

    Though there are no hospitals in Pataskala, residents have access to several nearby hospitals and medical centers. Mount Carmel New Albany Surgical Hospital, OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, and Mount Carmel St. Ann's Hospital are all within 15 miles and rated high performing by U.S. News. There are also two nationally ranked hospitals in Columbus: James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Insitute and Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
