Riverwood - Port Charlotte, FL

Riverwood is a golf course community for active adults situated on 1,300 acres alongside the wild and scenic Myakka River in Port Charlotte, Florida. This meticulously planned community is comprised of 28 unique neighborhoods and is an ecological paradise that includes an eagle preserve and bird sanctuary. All of the subdivisions are beautifully landscaped and carefully maintained by the homeowners association. Wide sidewalks and ample street lights provide a pedestrian-friendly environment.

Riverwood in Port Charlotte was started in 1994, and the most recent developer is Centex Homes. Home styles include twin villas, single-family homes, condos, and executive style homes. One of the main features of this scenic community is the 18-hole golf course. Other amenities include a full-time activities director and a clubhouse.

Riverwood Amenities

Golf enthusiasts will enjoy the par-72 Riverwood Golf Course, designed by Gene Bates, which winds throughout the community. It has a 4.5 star rating and flows through terrain heavily wooded with pines, salt marsh and wetlands. Combined with lush landscaping and native vegetation, this course is a beautiful destination for beginning and advanced players alike.

The 12,000 square foot clubhouse is the central hub for social activities and community amenities. It includes a large, state-of-the-art fitness center with junior Olympic size swimming pool and spa, a library, and multiple social areas including sewing and card rooms as well as a ballroom.

The grounds at Riverwood include six tennis courts, bocce ball courts, and a shuffle board area. In addition, plenty of walking and biking trails enhance the community. On-site dining is available at the Riverwood Grille. Residents also have private beach club access on Manasota Key.

Riverwood Homes & Real Estate

Riverwood offers twin villas, single-family homes, condos, and executive style homes. A lot of the homes offer water, nature, or golf course views. The single-family homes offer between 1,641 to 2,453 square feet of living space and have two to three bedrooms with two to three baths. The estate homes have three or four bedrooms with the corresponding number of baths and start at 2,404 square feet. The twin villas and condos are mostly two bedrooms and two baths with up to 2,040 square feet of air conditioned space.

The association fees in Riverwood include irrigation water, lawn and shrub maintenance service, semi-annual pine straw mulching, gatehouse and gate access, lakes and preserve maintenance, and roadway maintenance. Exterior building maintenance is included for the twin villas and condominiums. The condo association also provides water and sewer for its residents.

Some of these include the Charlotte Performing Arts Center, the Charlotte County Historical Center, and the Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary. Within a one hour drive, residents can reach Fort Myers to the south or Sarasota to the north.
