If you want to golf in retirement, why not live near the best courses?

Living near a top golf course is a dream come true for many active adults. Not only do these facilities provide endless opportunities to drive, chip, and putt, they forge life-long connections with other like-minded friends. You simply can’t beat the convenience of being able to pop over to play a few rounds as often as you like.

Active adults who look to New Jersey real estate close to golf courses have plenty of options. The state is covered with public and private courses from top to bottom. Golf review websites all have their favorite picks, but several names show up in these lists.

Here are some of our favorites, along with 55+ communities that are a hop, skip and a jump away.

Ballamor Golf Club – Egg Harbor Township

Ballamor Golf Club features an 18-hole course nestled within 350 acres of thick woods and softly rolling hills in Atlantic County. It was originally designed by Ault, Clark & Associates as a private club, but is now open to the public. The Ballamor Pub & Grill offers pub fare and is open seasonally.

The Village Grande at English Mill – Egg Harbor Township

High $100s – Mid $300s

Less than two miles from Ballamor, The Village Grande at English Mill has 397 single-family, resale homes. Although its optimal location is also close to other courses and minutes from the Jersey Shore, this development is quite affordable. Twisted Dune Golf Club is also in Egg Harbor, along with parks and nature preserves, plus a full complement of shops and services.

There are six floor plans ranging from 1,558 to 2,261 square feet, with two bedrooms, two to two-and-a-half bathrooms, and two-car garages. Options include dens, bay windows, whirlpools, and sunrooms.

The Grande Club private clubhouse boasts a modern fitness center with an indoor pool and saunas, plus a catering kitchen, ballroom, activity rooms, an outdoor pool, tennis, and a putting green.

The Village Grande at Little Mill – Egg Harbor Township

High $100s – Mid $200s

Nearby is The Village Grande at Little Mill, the two communities are three miles apart from each other. It is a bit more established and affordable than its counterpart, and also just minutes from Ballamor and the other desirable attractions, like the Renault Winery and Storybook Land.

There are 299 single-family, ranch-style homes ranging from 1,372 to 2,261 square feet. They have two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and attached two-car garages. Each ranch-style home was thoughtfully designed for active adults, with open floor plans and first-floor master suites. Larger models may have lofts, breakfast nooks, and patios.

Scotland Run Golf Club – Williamstown

Scotland Run Golf Club was built at an old sand quarry, with soaring cliffs in the background. Designed in 1999 by architect Steven Kay, this challenging course is ranked by Golf World as one of the top 50 public courses in the U.S. It also has a casual pub and grill, plus banquet facilities.

Holiday City at Monroe – Williamstown

Mid $100s – Mid $200s

Holiday City at Monroe is an established, active adult community of 682 resale single-family homes built by K. Hovanian. It takes about 12 minutes for residents to drive to Scotland Run, and this community is also just minutes from downtown Williamstown, where you can find the farmers market, Shoprite, banks, restaurants, and the library.

There is a wide choice of floor plans, most being ranch-style. They average about 1,300 square feet and have two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and attached garages. Features like first-floor master suites and porches make these homes comfortable and convenient.

Indoor and outdoor amenities include the private clubhouse with its multi-purpose room and activity hall, plus tennis, shuffleboard, an outdoor pool, and a gazebo.

Ridgewood Country Club – Paramus

Ridgewood Country Club is an exclusive, private 27-hole golf course first opened in 1929. It has a stunning clubhouse, created by renowned architect Clifford Wendehack. It has been home to many golf tournaments, and also offers tennis, swimming, and an upscale dining area and bar.

Paris Square – Northvale
