When you’re looking at the 55+ communities that Jacksonville has to offer, you’re likely going to narrow your search based on specific personal preferences. Maybe you want a golf course or an on-site restaurant or a golf cart-friendly community. Or maybe you want an indoor pool.

There’s something so luxurious about an indoor pool. It allows for swimming, wading, exercise, and relaxation no matter what the weather looks like outside. You can swim laps while it’s pouring. You can protect yourself from the merciless Florida sun. You can also swim early in the morning or late at night.

A gated 55+ community in the Nocatee master-planned community, Del Webb Ponte Vedra is known for its world-class amenities, including an indoor lap pool. That pool is found inside The Anastasia Club, a community clubhouse with over 37,000 square feet. In addition to the Atlantic Fitness Indoor Lap Pool, there’s also the Magnolia Movement Studio and the Plantation Fitness Center. Residents can also enjoy a steam room and sauna as well as the Sandcastle Day Spa.

After a few laps in the pool, residents might enjoy a drink in the Sawgrass Cafe. There’s also a full catering kitchen, and an outdoor sundeck that overlooks the resort-style pool and patio.

Additional amenities include a business center, a ceramics studio, a card room, a sewing space, a library, and courts for tennis, bocce, and pickleball. There’s a picnic area, a putting green, and an event lawn where neighbors gather for entertainment and communal events.

Fishing lakes and nature preserves are part of the landscape in this community, and there’s a six-mile nature trail. A community garden is also available, and there are dozens of clubs and activities for homeowners to join.

Homes include single-family models, condos, and attached villas. The condos are spacious and low maintenance, with 1,810 to 2,129 square feet, two or three bedrooms, and two bathrooms. Parking is in a dedicated one-car garage. Condos are found in four-story buildings that include elevators.

The attached carriage homes have several models with 1,438 to 1,868 square feet, two bedrooms, a den, two bathrooms, and a one-car garage. These are in two-level buildings with eight homes each.

Single-family homes have 1,157 to 2,634 square feet and models with two to four bedrooms and two to four bathrooms. They include an attached two or three-car garage.

One of the most popular 55+ communities Jacksonville, FL has to offer is Sweetwater. It’s located close to Downtown Jacksonville and the local beaches, but manages to stay serene and residential with lots of parks and natural spaces as well as biking and walking trails.

There’s an indoor lap pool and spa, which provides opportunities both exercise and relaxation. There’s also a movement studio, a state-of-the-art fitness center, an outdoor resort-style pool, tennis and bocce, as well as a putting green.

Other amenities include a large clubhouse called Summerland Hall. There’s a ballroom, a billiards room, a library, and a computer center. Residents have a lot of clubs and activities to keep them busy. They can join the Meatless Monday group or the game night group. There’s also a book club, a tennis club, and some gardeners who get together.

There are 950 homes at Sweetwater. The single-family models have 1,515 to 2,618 square feet. They’re available in one- or two-story floor plans, with primary suites on the main level. Most homes also have a covered lanai and an attached two-car garage.

Condos are available in four-story buildings with elevators. Floor plans have 1,818 to 2,129 square feet, two or three bedrooms, and two bathrooms. There are open floor plans, balconies or patios, and garage parking.

Carriage homes are attached, with 1,438 to 1,857 square feet, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and flex space that can be used as a den or office. An attached one-car garage is included with these villas, which are found in two-story buildings.

Sweetwater is only 15 minutes from Downtown Jacksonville, where there’s an abundance of fine dining, entertainment, and nightlife.

Mid $300s - Mid $500s

Not too far from Jacksonville is the historic city of St. Augustine, home to the fabled fountain of youth. It’s also home to Cascades at World Golf Village, a 55+ golf course community. There’s an indoor pool as well as a steam room attached to the large, modern fitness center. All of these amenities and more are found inside the 22,000-square-foot community clubhouse.

It’s not just the indoor pool that draws buyers to Cascades at World Golf Village. Here, residents will find the PGA Academy, World Golf Hall of Fame, and the famous restaurant “Caddyshack,” which is owned by one of the movie’s leading actors—Bill Murray.

Let’s not forget the other amenities. There’s a ballroom with a stage, a well-stocked library, a card room, separate poker room, and a billiards and darts room. Homeowners enjoy an outdoor pool as well, with a patio and seating. Also, there are tennis courts, bocce courts, and shuffleboard courts.

There are 450 single-family homes in this community, and they range from 1,613 to 2,520 square feet. Models have two to four bedrooms and two or three bathrooms, with an attached two-car garage. Features in some of these homes include garden tubs in the bathrooms, covered porches, and primary suites with walk-in closets and dual sinks.

About 30 miles from Jacksonville, St. Augustine provides active adults with opportunities to enjoy the beach, eclectic shopping, historical monuments, forts, and architecture, and a thriving arts district.
