4 New Jersey 55+ Communities with Their Own Restaurants

When was the last time you went into a restaurant and had something in common with almost every other patron? For most people, the answer to that question might be “uh…never?” But for those living in one of the spotlighted 55+ communities below, their responses will sound like:

That is because each of these New Jersey active adult developments has their own restaurant right on the property. Talk about convenient. Homeowners can walk, bike, or take a quick drive and share a meal with their neighbors, the chances of running into friends are very likely. Here are some 55+ communities that have their own restaurants (plus their other amenities are also good, too).

RiverWindsWest Deptford, NJ

High $100s – High $200s

The RiverWinds active adult community is part of the larger RiverWinds development in Gloucester County. Its panoramic setting by the Delaware River makes it a perfect choice for 55+ retirees that are looking for resort-style living.

One of its shining stars is the upscale Riverwinds Restaurant, which offers gourmet food and waterfront dining. The 112,000 square-foot RiverWinds Community Center is open to the entire development and has a modern fitness center with an indoor track, two indoor pools, and senior center. The center has a cozy lounge, a big-screen TV, and game tables.

Residents also spend sunny days at the outdoor pool area, go to concerts at the amphitheater, spend afternoons kayaking, and play golf and tennis at the stunning 18-hole golf course on the property. There are 355 condo and single-family homes in Riverwinds’ 55+ neighborhood, built from 2001 to 2006 by K. Hovnanian. Models offer 1,113 to 2,500 square feet with one to three bedrooms, one-and-a-half to three baths, and attached garages.

Renaissance at ManchesterManchester, NJ

Keeping busy is second nature for Renaissance at Manchester’s active adult homeowners. Its expansive, 30,000 square-foot clubhouse boasts numerous activity rooms, a modern fitness center, saunas, and its own deli and cafe. This eatery is a perfect place to stop after playing 18 holes on the community’s outstanding golf course, or between tennis sets, bocce ball games, or before heading to the outdoor pool and spa. Renaissance also has activity groups for interests that include martial arts, a singles group, Friends of Philharmonic Club, and dozens more.

This gated active adult community has 1,904 single-family resale homes. It was built in Ocean County from 1997 to 2007 by Carlton Homes and Centex Homes with 11 models sized from 1,522 to 2,256 square feet. They have one to two bedrooms, two baths, and two-car garages. Upgrades include dens, patios, and master suites. Renaissance is near Route 9, the Garden State Parkway, and Highways 37 and 70, putting it in close proximity to shopping malls, grocery stores, restaurants, and the Jersey Shore.

Canal WalkSomerset, NJ

Canal Walk’s private clubhouse, the Premier Club offers endless options for active adults to enjoy, like an indoor pool, a fitness and wellness center, hobby and game rooms, a beauty salon, and a vibrant cafe. Outdoor amenities include two outdoor pools, tennis courts, a putting green, and trails.

Upon completion, this gated community will have 1,200 new and resale condo, attached, and single-family homes. These range from 1,499 to 2,975 square feet and have two to four bedrooms, two to three-and-a-half bathrooms, and one- or two-car garages. Some include patios, dens, sunrooms, and well-appointed upgrades. Somerset is about an hour from New York and Philadelphia, and has a myriad of options for shopping, dining, entertainment, and outdoor recreation areas like Colonial Park and Spooky Brook Golf Course.

Equestra at Colts Neck CrossingFarmingdale, NJ

This gated community has 483 exclusive single-family homes, built from 2007 through 2018 by Centex. There are nine floor plans sized from 1,453 to 2,651 square feet. They feature two to four bedrooms, one-and-a-half to three bathrooms, and attached two or two-and-a-half car garages. Upgrades include patios, lofts, and master suites. Equestra is in Monmouth County, just outside of the private Eagle Oaks Golf and Country Club. Beach resort towns like Asbury Park and Bradley Beach are only about 20 minutes away, making beach days very doable.
