When active adults want to be surrounded by beautiful freshwater lakes (27 of them, in fact) Lake Placid in sunny Florida is the go-to destination. When they want to live just a quick walk away from one of those lakes, they choose the tranquil Tomoka Heights, a gated 55+ community located in Central Florida right on Lake Henry.

Homes in Tomoka Heights

Developed by Indigo Builders of Lake Placid Inc., Tomoka Heights will have about 460 single-family and attached “custom look” homes upon completion. Construction began in 1982 on a 190-acre lot along the Lake Wales Ridge, and today with more than 11 plans, home styles are as diverse as the people who live there. It’s an affordable community where currently attached homes are available in the low $100s to mid-$200s price range, and single-family homes run in the mid-$100s to high $200s.

Single-family homes in Tomoka Heights offer approximately 1,700 to 3,000 square feet of living space, with two to three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Some floor plans feature spacious living and dining areas, master suites and gourmet kitchens. Attached-style homes are approximately 1,000 to 2,400 square feet in size, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Some have Florida rooms, granite countertops and hardwood cabinets. Both styles have an attached two-car garage, and all homes are energy-friendly in design.

Amenities

With Lake Henry just steps away, residents have plenty of water activities. Onsite, there is a pavilion, boat ramp, fishing dock and RV parking, all of which are available for residents to use. Plus, Tomoka Heights also has an outdoor pool and spa, in addition to a tennis court, bocce ball and shuffleboard courts, and walking and biking trails.

Indoors, the clubhouse has a variety of activities for socialization amongst residents: bingo, a book club, exercise classes, crafts, darts, bowling, bunco, the digital technology club, poker, the ticker club, Iowa Party Group, the stock club and more. A library and computer room offer residents access to the Internet and books aplenty. Community events, such as holiday parties, Saturday morning breakfasts, Ladies Lunch Out, Party in the Park, and potluck dinners bring and keep everyone together.

At Tomoka Heights, residents may come for the scenery and atmosphere, but they stay for the lifelong friendships made there. Just beyond the Tomoka Heights gates is US Highway 27 for access to dining and shopping, and downtown Sebring is 20 minutes away.

Fort Myers is 75 miles from Lake Placid, Orlando and Sarasota are 90 miles, Tampa is 95 miles, and Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Daytona Beach and Miami are all more than 100 miles. The nearby Sebring Regional Airport makes it a breeze to travel to destination vacations. But, then again, who would want to leave?

With rolling hills, tranquil lake scenery and sunset views, Tomoka Heights is like a little piece of paradise right in Lake Placid.
