Asheville and its surrounding areas offer residents everything they could want–from scenic mountain views and year-round mild climate to easy access to daily conveniences, health care facilities, and an airport. Here are five of the most affordable active adult communities in the Asheville area.

CrowfieldsAsheville, NC

High $100s – Mid $300s

The age-restricted and gated community of Crowfields is another option to consider for affordable real estate in Asheville proper. The neighborhood has 192 attached homes available on a resale-only basis with prices starting from the high $100s. Floor plans span from 1,300 to 3,600 square feet with two to three bedrooms and two or two-and-a-half baths.

Beyond the community’s convenient location in Asheville and all the mountain town has to offer, residents can also enjoy a variety of amenities. The clubhouse serves as a hub for socializing and features a library, an arts and crafts studio, and a heated pool. Outside, there are gardening plots, parks, and fishing ponds.

The Hills at Avery’s CreekArden, NC

Mid $100s – High $100s

Rounding out the list of affordable active adult communities in the Asheville area is the small 55+ community of The Hills at Avery’s Creek located in Arden. It has 71 attached homes with between 900 and 1,367 square feet, two or three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an attached garage.

Homeowners will have access to a number of amenities within The Hills at Avery’s Creek. These include a community center, meeting rooms, card tables, a catering kitchen, a scenic lake, and walking and biking trails. There are also a variety of organized activities and clubs to take part in that appeal to all sorts of interests, including a breakfast club, a dinner club, holiday trips, and luncheons, to name a few.

RiverwindEtowah, NC

Mid $100s – High $100s

Riverwind is a 55+ community located just outside of Asheville in Etowah. Nestled near the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Riverwind offers picturesque rural living with attractive amenities and a mild climate. The community’s 190 homes are spread across a network of cul-de-sacs and tree-lined streets.

With 15 floor plans and various customizations, this community offers active adult homebuyers plenty of options. Ranging from 1,100 to 1,825 square feet, the homes in Riverwind offer single-story living with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a one- or two-car garage. The homeowners’ association (HOA) takes care of common area maintenance and the community grounds.

The community has two clubhouses that host an array of clubs and activities for socially and physically active adults. The Main Clubhouse has a catering kitchen, a multipurpose room, a fireplace, an outdoor pool, and a hot tub. The Small Clubhouse has two meeting rooms and a library. For traveling residents, Riverwind has RV parking.
