Connestee Falls - Brevard

Located in the picturesque mountain town of Brevard — just a short drive from Asheville — Connestee Falls is an affordable gated-community with prices starting in the low $100s.

The established community was first built in 1972 and features around 1,300 residences. There are single-family and attached homes within the development that are available as both new construction and resale.

There are several different types of floor plans and designs to choose from in Connestee Falls. The neighborhood’s attached homes range from 1,200 to 3,000 square feet in living space and can have two to four bedrooms, two or three bathrooms, and attached one or two-car garages.

Single-family homes are slightly larger with options that range from 1,300 to more than 5,000 square feet. These homes can have up to five bedrooms, four bathrooms, and an attached three-car garage.

Amenities within the gates include an expansive 26,000 square-foot clubhouse, meeting rooms, dining room, fitness center, locker rooms, library, and a card room. There’s also a performance theater, sports grill, bar, and lounge on site.

Outdoors, residents will find an 18-hole golf course, heated pool and patio, four tennis courts, four pickleball courts, a community garden, pet park, and dock. Additionally, there are several scenic lakes, parks, and 13 miles of walking and biking trails that wind throughout the property.

Cummings Cove - Hendersonville

This gated-community is made up of a combination of 600 single-family homes and condos that are available as new or resale residences. Price points in Cummings Cove start in the high $100s.

Condominiums within the development have 1,300 square feet of living space with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Single-family homes range from approximately 1,618 to 4,281 square feet with two to five bedrooms, two to four bathrooms, and an attached two-car garage.

Along with the country club and golf course, Cummings Cove offers residents a long list of enviable amenities, including a sports complex that has an exercise room, aerobics and dance studio, steam room, sauna, golf pro shop, locker rooms, and an outdoor pool and patio. There’s also an entire social center that has meeting rooms, a card room, ping pong, picnic area, horseshoe pits, and a croquet court.

Crowfields - Asheville

High $100s - Mid $300s

The age-restricted and gated-community of Crowfields is another option to consider for affordable real estate in Asheville proper. The neighborhood has 192 attached homes that are available on a resale-only basis with prices starting from the high $100s.

Floor plans span from 1,300 to 3,600 square feet of living space and can have between two to three bedrooms, and two or two-and-a-half baths.

Beyond the community’s convenient location in Asheville and all the mountain town has to offer, residents can also enjoy a variety of amenities. The Hills at Avery’s Creek - Arden

Rounding out the list of affordable active adult communities in the Asheville area is the small 55+ community of The Hills at Avery’s Creek that’s located in Arden.

It has 71 attached homes that have between 900 and 1,367 square feet of living space with two or three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an attached garage.

Homeowners will have access to a number of amenities in The Hills at Avery's Creek. These include a community center, meeting rooms, card tables, a catering kitchen, scenic lake, and walking and biking trails.
