Hot Springs Village is a master-planned, gated community in Central Arkansas. It is the largest gated community in the U.S., at over 26,000 acres, and is known for having all the necessary amenities within its gates, including golf courses, shops, restaurants, and local markets. Climate & Geography

Hot Springs Village has a continental climate that becomes more humid subtropical in the summer. There are four distinct seasons, and summers can have hot and sticky spells. Winters tend to be mild with outbreaks of cold weather and snow. The area is known for its pleasant spring and autumn weather. Most rainfall occurs in the summer through thunderstorms, and residents can expect around 213 days of sun each year.

Recreation, Culture & Entertainment

Outdoor recreation is one of Hot Spring Village’s major draws. With a total of 11 recreational lakes within its borders, there are plenty of fishing and boating opportunities. Just outside the community are Lakes Hamilton and Catherine, which are popular destinations for scenic camping and even more fishing. Hot Springs National Park, the oldest park under care of the National Park Service, is on the western slope of the Hot Springs Mountain, west of the city in the Ouachita National Forest. Residents have numerous opportunities there for hiking, biking, hunting, and scenic driving.

As a master-planned gated community, Hot Springs Village offers all the daily amenities a retiree could need. With nine golf courses, two full marinas, multiple local restaurants and boutique shops, and community farmers and artisans market, the village has it all. Additionally, the village performing arts center is composed of different stages and venues, providing both large concerts and intimate gatherings.

Residents seeking more shopping, dining, and entertainment outside the village can drive a half-hour to Hot Springs, a resort and spa town, or 45 minutes to Little Rock, the state capital.

Cost of Living & Taxes

The cost of living in Hot Springs Village is below average because of very affordable housing costs.

Arkansas does not tax Social Security, but it does tax all other forms of retirement income. There are, however, large deductions available for retirees over the age of 59 ½. The state does impose a capital gains tax for retirees with investments in assets outside of retirement savings accounts. The state’s property taxes are very low, while sales taxes are high.

Although there are no hospitals in Hot Springs Village, there are several in nearby Hot Springs. These include National Park Medical Center, Levi Hospital, and CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs Hospital, which is rated by U.S. News as high performing.
