Dreaming of a Myrtle Beach retirement? These coastal communities make it easy to downsize.

With retirement often comes the want or need to downsize, whether it’s downsizing to a smaller house with less square footage to worry about, or, downsizing the amount of work and chores that have to be done to properly maintain a residence inside and out.

There are several active adult communities in the popular area of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina that offer the opportunity to downsize without compromising on living in a desirable location or enviable amenities.

Here are four of the best communities for downsizing in Myrtle Beach.

Bridgewater – Myrtle Beach

High $100s – Low $300s

Myrtle Beach’s large Bridgewater community will be made up of more than 1,500 homes that will spread over 540 picturesque acres upon completion. Only new construction homes are available with almost a dozen floor plans for potential homebuyers.

Plans can have as little as 1,586 square feet of living space with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an attached two-car garage. The neighborhood also has extremely affordable options starting as low as the high $100s.

Final plans for Bridgewater’s amenities include a 5,000 square-foot clubhouse, fitness center, great room, multi-purpose room, and card room. Outdoor amenities will include two resort-style pools and patios, a fire pit, gazebo, outdoor grill, community gardening plots, and walking and biking trails. There will also be a dog park for residents to enjoy time outdoors with their favorite four-legged friend.

Cameron Village – Myrtle Beach

Mid $100s – High $200s

Active adults should also consider Cameron Village when it comes to communities with incredible downsizing options. The 344-home development has both new and resale homes that are available with prices starting in the mid $100s and increasing to the high $200s.

Cameron Village’s Wisteria model offers the least amount of square footage, which ranges from 1,446 to 1,476 square feet of living space and can have two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a garage.

There’s also the Jasmine model for buyers who would like to downsize, but want a little more space than Wisteria offers. Jasmine floor plans feature between 1,561 and 1,582 square feet of living space with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and two-car garages.

Amenities within the community include a clubhouse, multi-purpose room, outdoor pool, two tennis courts, a basketball court, walking and biking trails, and scenic ponds. Additionally, there’s a playground on the property that’s ideal for visits with grandchildren.

The Bays of Prince Creek – Murrells Inlet

Low $200s – High $400s

Originally built in 2004, The Bays of Prince Creek is a gated community made up of a combination of almost 800 single-family and attached homes that were built by several builders.

The attached homes within the neighborhood offer less space and are great for anyone wanting to downsize, the floor plans still offer two bedrooms, one to three bathrooms, and a one-car garage. In addition to the smaller space, residents won’t have to worry about taking care of outdoor chores, either.

Notable amenities include a clubhouse exercise room, two outdoor pools and patios, two tennis courts, a pavilion, fire pit, and walking and biking trails. Along with the many amenities, there’s an on-site activities director that coordinates organized social events throughout the year.
