Spring has sprung and for golf fans that can only mean one thing, the Masters. Whether you’ll be watching this year’s tournament from Augusta National Golf Club or listening to Jim Nantz on your couch, it’s likely you’ll be ready to hit 18 holes yourself. While you might want to play Augusta National’s famous and scenic fairways during retirement, finding a community near Augusta is tough.

Fortunately, Georgia is home to several golf course communities that make the drive to Augusta easier, as well as providing a course closer to home.

Sun City Peachtree – Griffin

Del Webb’s Georgia offering is the 3,387-home Sun City Peachtree. Featuring new construction single-family homes, the community is home to a range of resort-style amenities including the 45,000 square-foot clubhouse, Club Peachtree. Another feather in the community’s cap of amenities is the 18-hole Canongate Golf Course.

The par-72 course features elevated tees and generous landing areas. The 6,822-yard course includes five sets of tees, making it playable for golfers of all skill levels. Bent grass greens, rolling fairways, and towering trees make the course as beautiful as it is enjoyable. Members of this private course enjoy access to Canongate’s 23 golf courses around metro Atlanta. The community is also home to a pro shop and putting green.

Soleil Laurel Canyon – Canton

Another 55+ community with new construction single-family homes, Soleil Laurel Canyon is adjacent to the 18-hole Fairways of Canton. Homeowners can purchase a membership or pay a low fee for a tee-time.

The par-72 course includes five tees that cater to players of all skill levels. The 6,515-yard course is notable for its subtlety, small greens, and generous fairways. The golf club is also home to a driving range, practice putting green, chipping area, and sand practice area. When done playing, golfers can visit the pro shop or dine at the Stratus Kitchen and Bar.

The Landings on Skidaway Island – Savannah

This active lifestyle community features low-maintenance homes in a beautiful waterfront, natural setting. The Landings on Skidaway Islands features eight neighborhoods with four of them being home to at least one golf course.

The courses include Marshwood, Magnolia, Plantation, Palmetto, Oakridge, and Deer Creek. There are several famous course designers involved with the courses in this community, including Arnold Palmer, Willard Byrd, and Tom Fazio. Each course presents a different set of challenges for beginners and experts, as well as diverse flora and scenic views.

Cadence – Canton

Another Canton-based community, Cadence is an age-restricted community that includes 127 single-family homes. Besides private amenities, homeowners have easy access to Woodmont Golf and Country Club. Woodmont is home to the 18-hole Robert Trent Jones Jr-designed course.

The 72-par course is 5,200 yards and boasts unique holes, tree-lined fairways, and scenic views. The country club is also home to an expansive clubhouse, pro shop, restaurant, and driving range.

Brookstone Manor – Acworth

Brookstone Manor is a great option for active adults looking for a quaint neighborhood while also enjoying the amenities of a larger community. The community is located in the master-planned community Brookstone Golf and Country Club. Besides amenities in Brookstone Manor residents have access to the master community’s amenities, including the 18-hole Larry Nelson golf course.

Golfers can choose from several different tee locations, making the par-72 course perfect for any player. Besides playing a round, residents can hone their game at the club’s driving range, putting green, and two practice chipping areas.
