It may have an unusual name, but the sport of pickleball is a favorite among 55+ adults. For the uninitiated: It can be played indoors or outdoors on a court with a modified tennis net. Players use a paddle and a plastic ball dotted with holes (a whiffle ball), and games are played in singles or doubles. It has much in common with ping-pong, badminton, and tennis, and it’s enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities because it’s easy to play and follow.
There are thousands of these badminton-sized courts in this country, and many of them are in active adult communities. The sport has gained popularity over the past decade because it’s healthy, challenging, and an excellent way to spend time with like-minded friends.
