Pickleball is a sport that’s growing in popularity among active adults across the United States. If you’re not familiar, pickleball is similar to tennis except you serve under-handed, the ball has less bounce, there’s no doubles alley, and there is a seven-foot, no-volley zone called “the kitchen” extending from the net.

Regardless of the reason, pickleball is certainly taking off and is featured in many 55+ communities. In the state of Georgia, there are quite a few communities that feature at least one, but in many cases, more than one pickleball court, as well as pickleball clubs. If you’re thinking about moving to Georgia and love pickleball, or would love to start playing, these are the communities for you.

Del Webb at Lake Oconee – Greensboro

Low $200s – High $700s

Not only does this community have two pickleball courts, but it also has a bocce ball court, a softball field, a dog park and miles of scenic walking and biking trails. Situated directly on Lake Oconee, Georgia’s second largest lake, Del Webb at Lake Oconee combines rural charm with convenient access to the culture and entertainment of Atlanta.

Over 30 percent of the community is preserved in its natural state and homeowners enjoy large homesites with over 20 feet of space between homes. The generous lot sizes and natural setting provide a welcome change from the more heavily developed neighborhoods and traffic-congested roads closer to Atlanta. With around 800 households, you can choose from 12 floor plans including duplex villas and single-family homes.

Larkspur – Alpharetta

High $300s – High $400s

Larkspur in Alpharetta is an active lifestyle community with 134 single-family homes. Larkspur’s community clubhouse, The Ranch House, has many desirable amenities and activities, featuring an activity room for staying in shape, a learning space for educational pursuits, and meeting and gathering rooms for spending time with friends.

Outside The Ranch House, residents will be able to play an exciting game of pickleball or take a dip in the resort-style swimming pool. You can relax poolside on the patio or meet neighbors around the fireplace. Residents can take advantage of the miles of nature trails and serene ponds in Larkspur, as well as enjoy using the community gardens.

Nestledown Farm – Cumming

Mid $300s – High $300s

Nestledown Farm is a 55+ community being built in scenic Cumming. This active adult community offers 80 new single-family homes with spacious floor plans and modern exteriors. They range in size offer 2,229 to 2,793 square feet of living space and have three bedrooms, three to three-and-a-half bathrooms, and an attached two-car garage. Other great features include dens, open living areas, large master suites, and covered patios.

For pickleball enthusiasts, there will be two community courts, along with an outdoor pool, community gardens, and a clubhouse with an exercise room and catering kitchen.

Village at Deaton Creek – Hoschton

Low $400s – Mid $500s

With two pickleball courts, Village at Deaton Creek by Del Webb is nestled 40 miles north of Atlanta where the world-class dining, shopping, and entertainment of Atlanta meets the rural charm of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The community includes finely-crafted amenities, an active lifestyle and ranch homes.

An intimate, guard-gated community with 1,144 homes, Village at Deaton Creek is revered for its bountiful lineup of amenities, like a 35,000 square-foot, two-story clubhouse that serves as the catalyst for all community social and fitness activities. It includes an 8,000 square-foot state-of-the-art fitness center, an aerobics and dance studio, a grand ballroom, indoor lap pool with spa, library with Wall Street room, demonstration kitchen and several hobby and craft studios.

Cresswind at Peachtree City – Peachtree City

Mid $200s – Mid $400s

Twenty-five minutes outside of Atlanta is Cresswind at Peachtree, an active adult community that offers 650 single-family homes that come in different styles and sizes, with a variety of customizable options. At the heart of this 55+ community is The Club at Cresswind. The clubhouse features an impressive lineup of indoor and outdoor amenities and recreational facilities that will keep residents social, active, and relaxed. Amenities include a state-of-the-art fitness center, yoga, and aerobics studio, indoor pool with lap lanes and a spa, and multi-purpose room.

Residents have plenty of social spaces like a lounge area, billiards, card room, game room, arts and crafts room, and demonstration kitchen. Outdoor amenities provide additional areas for recreational activities. There is a resort-style pool, outdoor patio, amphitheater, event lawn, fireplace and grilling courtyard. Homeowners who want more physical activity can challenge neighbors to a friendly game at one of the tennis, bocce, and yes, pickleball courts. With plenty of walking and biking trails, retirees will have no trouble finding ways to stay healthy outdoors while enjoying the Georgia climate.
