The state of Oregon makes for a unique and fun retirement destination. Thankfully, Oregon is home to several active adult communities, many of which offer modern, high-end amenities while being low in cost. Read on below to hear about some of the best lowest-priced communities that Oregon has to offer.

Salemtowne – Salem

Mid $100s – Mid $300s

Located on a historic site that sits just west of the Willamette River, Salemtowne is a country club community in Salem. Featuring 460 single-family, attached, and condo homes, Salemtowne residences range from 775 to 2,820 square feet and were designed to be as low-maintenance as possible. While only offering resale homes, many residences have been updated with modern features, including granite countertops, fireplaces, wood or slate floors, and large closet spaces.

Residents will be able to take full advantage of the many amenities that Salemtowne has to offer, including the fitness center, billiards room, and woodworking shop. The community is home to a century-old farmhouse which was part of the original orchard that once sat on the land. Today, it serves as a lending library for members of the community.

The community also includes an auditorium called the Towne Hall, which comes with a stage, piano and A/V equipment, allowing the space to host parties and events all throughout the year. Golfers will enjoy the community’s 9-hole executive course, which comes complete with a clubhouse, putting green, and practice areas.

Rounding out the amenities is the greenhouse, where homeowners can come to take care of and store their plants, even in the winter, as well as a heated pool, a patio, a grilling area, and free RV and boat storage.

Woodburn Estates and Golf – Woodburn

Next up is Woodburn Estates & Golf, which is open to active adults 55 and older. Woodburn Estates is a large community of over 1,500 homes, all of which range from 625 to 1,616 square feet. Floor plans are designed to be low-maintenance and include features such as family rooms, walk-in closets, fireplaces, and covered patios. Each home has two bedrooms and one to two bathrooms, while many also have an attached one- or two-car garage. Many of the homes also border the golf courses so getting a few rounds of golf in has never been easier.

Central to the community is the 26,000 square-foot clubhouse where residents can come and enjoy an exercise room, an aerobics studio, an indoor pool, a library, a restaurant, and an auditorium with a stage.

As implied in its name, Woodburn Estates & Golf includes an 18-hole golf course. The course features 5,398 yards starting at the longest tees and is situated on flat terrain. The course is designed to be utilized by golfers of all levels, so anyone can come out and practice their skills. In addition to the actual course, the space also includes putting greens, a pro shop, and a gazebo.

Summerfield – Tigard

A community of 1,231 single-family homes, attached homes, and condos, Summerfield is a 55+ community that is situated on 203 acres of land. Residents can choose from over 40 different models of homes, with condos ranging from 762 to 1,336 square feet, townhomes from 1,190 to 1,974 square feet, and single-family homes providing 1,074 to 2,286 square feet.

A truly active community, Summerfield features dozens of clubs and activities to join, with everything from arts to academics. Residents can join anything from book club, art classes, and gardening, to dancing, water aerobics, and a walking group.

In terms of amenities, Summerfield features a 24,000 square-foot clubhouse. One of the most popular spots in the facility is the ballroom, which often hosts community parties and private events. Outside the clubhouse residents will find even more to do thanks to the scenic walking and biking trails scattered throughout the community, an outdoor pool, and an 18-hole golf course and pro shop.

King City – Portland

High $100s – Low $400s

Rounding out the list is King City, a 55+ community in eccentric Portland. King City is comprised of 1,287 condos, townhomes, and single-family homes. Condos offer approximately 820 to around 1,400 square feet of space, townhomes range from 1,000 to 1,770 square feet, and single-family homes offer 1,040 to 1,700 square feet.

For entertainment, King City always presents something fun and exciting for its residents to do. There are over 40 clubs and interest groups which meet throughout the year while standard amenities like the fitness center, indoor pool and woodworking shop are always available to use. In addition, a 9-hole golf course and pro shop are nearby and offer everything needed to enjoy a game.

One of King City’s main appeals is its prime location. The community lies just 15 miles away from downtown Portland, a beautiful city filled with a great art scene and tons of restaurants and entertainment.
