Englewood is a census-designated place (CDP) in Southwest Florida. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy the miles of beaches and abundant greenspaces in the area. In addition, the CDP's year-round warmth, close proximity to Sarasota, and vibrant downtown area make it popular among retirees.
Climate & Geography
The region experiences a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and warm winters. Thunderstorms are frequent in the summer, resulting in over 50 inches of rain throughout the year. Winters are drier with temperatures in the 60s.
Englewood is located on Lemon Bay, and much of its terrain is made up of low-lying marshes. The Myakka State Forest is directly east of the CDP.
Recreation, Culture, & Entertainment
With miles of beaches and coastline, there is no shortage of water recreation in Englewood. Englewood Beach and Blind Pass Beach are the most popular beaches for sunbathing and swimming. Lemon Bar Park and Environmental Center has trails and a boat ramp, and Indian Mound Park has piers with scenic views. There are several more parks and natural areas throughout the CDP.
When not enjoying the area's abundant greenspaces, residents head to the weekly Englewood Farmers Market or catch a show at the Lemon Bay Playhouse. Dearborn Street and Olde Englewood Village have local bistros and boutiques. In addition, the Englewood Art Center has educational courses as well as galleries to highlight local artists.
For more art and entertainment, residents can head to Sarasota, only 45 minutes away.

The cost of living in Englewood is slightly below the national average. Several factors, including health care, housing, and transportation are all below the state and national averages.
There is no income tax in Florida, meaning all forms of retirement income are untaxed. In addition, property taxes are just below average, and some counties offer an additional homestead exemption for retirees over 65. Sales taxes are average for the U.S. and do not apply to groceries or medicine.

There are three medical centers and hospitals within 15 miles of Englewood. They are Englewood Community Hospital, Venice Regional Bayfront Hospital, and Fawcett Memorial Hospital. Venice Regional Bayfront Hospital is rated high performing by U.S. News in its treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and heart failure. Fawcett Memorial Hospital is also rated high performing for treating COPD.
