Myrtle Beach, South Carolina may be one of the most coveted retirement destinations in the country due to its mild winters, world-class golfing, scenic beaches, and endless entertainment options. But, even with its popularity, the area still has plenty of affordable housing options to choose from. There are more than 30 active adult communities in and around Myrtle Beach and several of those developments have homes for sale under $200k.

Here are four of the most affordable adult communities in the Myrtle Beach area.

Berkshire ForestMyrtle Beach, SC

Low $100s – Low $400s

The large community of Berkshire Forest will be home to 1,500 single-family homes upon completion. It has both new and resale options on the market, and prices start in the low $100s, making it one of the area’s most affordable active adult communities.

Built by Pulte Homes, the development offers potential homebuyers 20 floor plans to choose from. Homes within the community range from 1,656 to 3,200 square feet with two to six bedrooms, two to five bathrooms, and two- or three-car garages. Berkshire Forest’s amenities include a residents’ club, a fitness center, multipurpose rooms, an outdoor pool and patio, a spa, bocce and tennis courts, plus walking and biking trails.

Myrtle Beach Golf & Yacht ClubMyrtle Beach, SC

Mid $100s – Mid $200s

The Myrtle Beach Golf & Yacht Club is another large community with affordable houses on the market for less than $100k. Residences are available on a resale basis only with more than 1,020 single-family homes within the neighborhood.

Originally built in 1985, the community has had many builders, giving prospective buyers plenty of choices when it comes to the look and feel of their homes. Most plans range from 1,100 to 1,800 square feet with two to three bedrooms, one to two bathrooms, and attached garages. Amenities within Myrtle Beach Golf & Yacht Club include a clubhouse, a community center, a pool, a playground, several athletic courts, and RV and boat parking.

Myrtle TraceConway, SC

Mid $100s – Low $200s

Conway’s age-restricted Myrtle Trace community is less than a 30-minute drive from Myrtle Beach and features 518 single-family homes that are available as resale only. The established neighborhood was built in 1980 and consists of mainly ranch-style homes with low-maintenance exteriors. Floor plans within the development vary in size, but they typically offer two to three bedrooms, two to two-and-a-half bathrooms, and attached garages.

Residents of Myrtle Trace have access to several amenities including a clubhouse, a hobby and game room, a library, a multipurpose room, and a catering kitchen. Outdoors, homeowners will find a pool, bocce courts, shuffleboard courts, and horseshoe pits that are perfect for a friendly game with neighbors. Along with the amenities, residents can also enjoy the community’s busy social scene by joining one of the neighborhood’s organized clubs or interest groups or by attending one of the many social events such as potluck dinners or game nights.

Spring ForestMurrells Inlet, SC

Low $100s – High $100s

Located in the coastal town of Murrells Inlet—just a short drive from Myrtle Beach—Spring Forest is another active adult community with houses on for sale under $200k. With only 126 single-family homes, this gated and age-restricted neighborhood is relatively small compared to most communities in the area.

Residences are on the market as resale-only with prices starting in the low $100s, making it an incredible option for active adults who want to stick to a budget. Floor plans range from 1,056 to 1,800 square feet with two to three bedrooms, two to three bathrooms, and attached one-car garages or carports.

The community’s homeowners’ association fee covers lawn care, trash removal, and common area maintenance. It also includes RV and boat storage. Other perks to living in Spring Forest include a variety of amenities including a clubhouse, a fitness center, a game room, and a library. Outside, there’s also a pool, a patio, and scenic ponds.

Also located in Conway, Lakeside Crossing is a great option for those looking for a home under $200k. With plans for 692 single-family homes upon completion, there are plenty of chances to find your dream home at a good price.

The community offers four floor plans ranging from 1,397 to 1,907 square feet. Each plans has two bedrooms plus a den and two bathrooms, while garages vary from one- to two-car options.

There are two amenity centers in Lakeside crossing, one main clubhouse and one focusing on fitness. The main clubhouse has several hobby rooms, a pub, a catering kitchen, and tennis and shuffleboard courts outside.
