    Overview

    Indio is a city in Riverside County, California. It’s located in the Coachella Valley and approximately 23 miles east of Palm Springs. Retirees looking for a city with a desert-resort feel will really appreciate Indio.  

    Climate & Geography

    Indio has a desert climate. The average annual high temperature is in the high 80s and the average annual low temperature is in the low 60s. The average annual precipitation is about three inches of rainfall. 

    Approximately three miles north and east of Indio is the San Andreas Fault. Indio’s elevation is about 14 feet under sea level. There are high mountain ranges on three sides of the city. 

    Recreation, Culture, & Entertainment

    Indio has a lot of open space and the warm weather lends itself for an assortment of outdoor activities. Residents can attend Polo matches at Empire Polo Club and Eldorado Polo Club. Shopping is available from farmers markets to fashion malls. Active adults looking for indoor activities can make their way to the casinos and museums scattered throughout the city.

    There are two medical centers and hospitals within 10 miles of Indio. John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital is ranked High Performing in hip and knee replacement. Eisenhower Medical Center is regionally ranked and ranked High Performing in eight adult procedures/conditions.
